today "out of the blue" my trans decided to fail,1st 2nd are ok but slips into 3rd,i am reading that it is a very common problem with these 4 speeds (just my luck) i have owned lots of cars and never had a trans go with no warning.

4L60E or 700R4 the 700 uses a TV cable and if not set properly they normally burn 3rd then you will not get 4th . You can try out a little more tension on the cable and it might go away.

It's a common problem with them . A adjustment of 1 to 2 millimetres makes a difference on the TV cable. I have been building them in my country for app 20 years and we still have problems when the cable gets a slight stretch in it and it's not reajusted.

thank's for the post,i adjusted it (reset it) and still slipping from second to third, look's like a rebuild sadly,i noticed it has already had a rebuild before,so not a great transmission from the beginning, cheer's Overdrive915
