Converting/updating A/C

Converting/updating A/C - June 10th 2019 4:32 pm

Summer is here and Vanna White (1992 Dodge B250) is going on a long road trip next month, into climates where some more creature comforts would be nice to have. The A/C never blew cold since we got her, and has been a low/non-priority on the van to-do list.

It's the stock R12 system, which probably hasn't been serviced in a long time. My mechanic says it may need to be completely replaced to convert to R134, etc. That seems excessive to me..... my google-fu found this, it sounds like this guy just did minimal stuff to get it switched over, would this work for me?

I've also seen some basic kits out there that are just new fittings, and a new receiver/drier, etc.....

I'm shooting in the dark here, anyone been down this road?
