I picked her up back in October. The 318 was seized but I got her freed up. I've been working on the brakes and just started ripping the interior out yesterday day. I've done water pump, new gas tank, electric fuel pump, new fuel lines, carb rebuild, gm hei, new tires kinda. Where in Florida you about.

Looks like a whole lotta work. Really dig those captains chairs though, they look like a good cleaning might bring em back to life

I sadly had to throw one out.

1978 Dodge the one year wonder, I think you have a good project! Sometimes they look worse than they are.
Posted By: Itszeorangesoda Re: My shaggin wagon build thread - June 03rd 2019 5:55 pm
What's special about 78? It is a project though.
Posted By: Reed Re: My shaggin wagon build thread - June 03rd 2019 6:34 pm
The 1978 Dodge is a one-year-only model with many one-year-only parts, or so the parts books would have you believe.

The 1978 Dodge uses the front sheetmetal of the 71-77 vans, but the 79-up dash and rear sheetmetal. The front suspension is unique to the 78 model year (I believe) but the dash parts are compatible with the 79-up parts and the sheetmetal is compatible with the 71-77 or 79-up depending on what you are working on.

Holy s**t haha
Posted By: Itszeorangesoda Re: My shaggin wagon build thread - June 12th 2019 2:37 pm
I took her on her maiden voyage yesterday. I still have some quirks to work out such as pulling to one side with braking, dying off of idle, acceleration issues, and carb linkages. If anyone is down in Florida I would love to get some help. Beer and grass provided haha. Does anyone know where the cable links too and its purpose?

Talk to the Orlando Street Vans guys. I am sure they have some knowledgeable guys that can help out! Josh with the Electric Boogaloo Van did a bunch of work to his, which i believe is a 77.

I've talked to Josh but he's recently moved and busy with that. I text him regularly. He's the only vanner I know face to face.

What's the best way to rip up the carpet. I dont need to save it.
Posted By: Death or victory Re: My shaggin wagon build thread - June 13th 2019 9:01 pm
Good pair of gloves and a trash can. Maybe even a dust mask and glasses. Could be screwed down in places potentially so I’d have cordless drill at the ready. But yeah, rip it out!

If it's old carpet you don't want to be breathing in any dust/crap or getting dust/crap in your eyes, trust me. I replaced my carpet without wearing anything and my sinuses were screwed up for a good week or 2.

Does anyone have any experience on doing a gm tbi swap? I might be getting a throttle body and ecm from a 92 firebird that the guy pulled off in favor of carb. I'd still have to get a wiring harness from the junkyard.
Posted By: Dyno_Dave Re: My shaggin wagon build thread - June 19th 2019 2:36 pm
No experience with a conversion, but one of the better TBI support forums is on thirdgen.org, supporting 3rd gen. F-bodies like the '92 Firebird that is your donor.

So I've started reworking the tbi harness, I've gotten rid of all the emissions stuff and trans control. I'm only reworking it for fuel and spark. I currently have the 4 pin module on it instead of the mopar ignition box so wiring will be easy on ignition side. I just got the tbi unit harness and ecm out off a 92 gmc Sierra. I'm gonna keep carb on it so I can try to make it to the meet next month. I just replaced the starter it was long over due, sometimes it work other times it just spins the starter clutch. I finally added a fuel pressure regulator and after all this she dont want to idle unless she's on the yellow cam.

thirdgen.org has some useful info, got answers on a tune port problem on that site.
Posted By: Itszeorangesoda Re: My shaggin wagon build thread - June 26th 2019 5:47 pm
I've been using binderplanet for tbi information.
Posted By: Itszeorangesoda Re: My shaggin wagon build thread - June 27th 2019 12:30 am
Before I swap the tbi, I want to drive it a little on the carb. It doesn't want to idle. Does anyone have any initial settings for a carter bbd carb. Its 78 year.

Carburetor rebuild and adjustment and operations manual is available for free download here:

Thank you. It already rebuilt it few months ago and i had it running off of controlled flooding lmao.
Posted By: Itszeorangesoda Re: My shaggin wagon build thread - June 30th 2019 6:45 pm
Alright so the van looks like it has a blown head gasket so I just ordered all the parts and ima tear into it on the 4th. I'm just gonna do the tbi swap then too. I got all the parts except for a knock sensor and temp and o2 sensor but since I'm gonna pull the head. I'll weld in the bung into the exhaust.
Posted By: Itszeorangesoda Re: My shaggin wagon build thread - July 10th 2019 2:05 am
So in the meantime, I have gotten all the sensors and have finished trimming down the harness to everything I need but left enough on each wire I cut in case I wanted to add it on later. I still need to grab a lil check engine light to add but other than that she's done. I've tore into the engine and did the head gaskets, I dropped the head on the gasket and had to get a new felpro one but after that slip up she's all together except the manifold. I'm still cleaning it up to add all the sensors and modules. While I was pulling the exhaust. I went ahead and added a o2 bung. Autozone had to special order one so I grabbed a doorman help anti fouler, cut it in half and welded it in. Works perfect.

Kewl.
A friend of OSV is a friend of mine.
We're members of Outcast Vanners, the Ga chapter. We get down to the Sunshine state on a regular basis, always enjoy the old school style truck-ins of Orlando Street Vans, maybe we'll see ya.

Maybe I'm going to be moving in February back home to Maryland. I need to get the van ready by then.
