AdVANce Romance - October 20th 2018 5:14 am

Hello all.

My name is Ben and I live in the far west of Germany.

Since nine years I'm driving a Grand Cherokee ZJ.
From that moment on I never wanted an other car than Mopar... No, seriously, over the years I started a collection of parts for the Jeep and so I wanted to use it further.

So six weeks ago I purchased a 1999 b-van.

It's an 8seater window van with a 318, same as in the Jeep. It's going to be a family camper and my daily driver. The drivetrain seems to be sound as I drove it home 650km (400 miles).
The interior needs some work, I'm going to try to transplant some of the "limited" goodness in the Jeep into the van, as power windows and locks and maybe the cruise control.

And there is extensive sheet metal work on the body.

What I've done so far:

Today I'm fabricating some panels and weld them in place on the inside floor and than cut out some more...
The corroded areas in the floor are the same on the other side and a bit further to the front. Also some smaller spots around the mounts for the rear seats. Also the the edges of the rear and the sliding door. And that's about it with rust.
Under the floor I removed the exhaust and the heat shields to clean the surface rust and to protect the whole underside.

Thanks for your interest.

Later some more.

Wish me endurance crazy

You do great fab work! Good job!

I like how the fog lights are mounted too. I've never seen them on a Dodge like that

Thank you.

These fog lights are indeed the european standart headlights. The original headlights are out of function. The make pretty good light and I like them as well. What I don't like are the blind old ones...

Re: AdVANce Romance - October 25th 2018 3:20 am

On Saturday I discovered a small wet spot on the floor under the passenger entry.
So I pulled the rubber plug and about one to two liter of water ran out of the cavity.
I think it is rainwater.
Any idea around were it comes from? The antenna hole maybe?

This weekend I finally made some progress.

Much less than I dreamed of...
Also I found the waterways.
It runs out of the gutter and thru the door seal.
Next week I hope for some more time on the van.

On a Mid-Dodge the water enters through the cowl below the windshield. That is an open area that runs down into the fender wells and the drain holes become plugged over the years with leaves, dirt and other debris. Leave the drain plugs out or put back in and drill a 3/8 hole in them for water to drain through. I take the cowl out and undercoat the entire area, open the air-vent doors and undercoat through there also, and remove the sun visors and undercoat through them openings. Every couple years I refreshen the undercoat with chainsaw bar oil. Also drill drain holes in the bottom of the driver and passenger doors.
