G20 Engine Help in Indiana? #793991 08/08/2022 7:39 PM

Hello Vanninites. I am new to this forum, have been reading it for a couple years since buying my 1985 Chevy G20 Rockwood conversion. Love this forum!
Unfortunately I was struck a devastating blow when my van died on me on I-80 just north of Fort Wayne a couple weeks ago. I have no idea what happened as I performed all routine maintenance since buying the van, which is (usually) in great shape.

My predicament is, the van is currently at the shop it was towed to when it broke down. They say it needs a new engine, but do not seem very comfortable doing the swap. Since this is going to cost me big $$$, I'd like to have more confidence in the end result and ensure whatever issue killed the first engine isn't going to happen again. Does anyone have any recommendations on who they'd trust with a full engine swap in Northern Indiana? I'm considering having it shipped back to Pittsburgh but my local guys wouldn't be able to get to it until December. And shipping is expensive.

Thanks!

Crate Goodwrench from Jegs. I think they are still under $2000. Heard they are back ordered at the moment. Other places sell them too. Speedway maybe. I paid a small shop I know $1000 to put it in. Took him 3 1/2 days.

I know this is old and the OP has prolly either scrapped the van or left it there but I highly recommend gearhead engines for a crate motor. Outstanding customer service and great core return price ($750) So my 350 reman ebgine cost me $2100 after core return. I went from sad 4.3 v6 to 350. Grinning ear to ear every time I drive Betty now. I’m a self taught gearhead though and did all the work myself.

The Goodwrench crate I bought came from Mexico.
