When i replaced the 318 in my '77 The original carb was a 2 bbl. the carb on the engine i rebuilt had a 4 bbl Quadrajet. Would i get slightly better fuel milage going to the 4 bbl. with the smaller primary' s than the 2 barrel, assuming i'm not to hard on the go peddle?(LOL). Someone mentioned this to me a while ago but i have yet to get a definite answer. The reason i didn't go to the 4 bbl. in the first place was because of the linkage differences. [Eek!] S.P

HI S.P. [Smile] The 4 bbl Quadrajet is the best carb I know(street use). So YES [Razz] but the cam will make a bigger difference in MPG. Good luck

Hi Cloudy, The 318 i am using now was originally in my '78 Lebaron 2dr. The front end got really bad. The bottom end went in the van so i just flipped it in. The motor has a new timing chain, oil pump, heads cleaned up, new valve train and a Rv cam. My brother reluctantly did the engine work (heavy duty mech) ,he likes his chevys. I am also running 2" exhaust through glasspacks. [Smile]

Greetings S.P. I am an old Mopar fan. I also believe that a four barrel carb will give you better fuel economy and performance that a two. Of course as you say you need to keep the pedal off the floor! [Big Grin] I don't know how old the exhaust is, but when it is time to replace, you may want to consider going with larger pipes, and get rid of those glass packs. You may like the way it sounds, but you should actually get better economy and performance with a "turbo" type muffler. The cam you used is a great choice for what you are looking for. It is a comparison to the Chevy "Fireball" cam. I have used it in many engines. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the input guys. As soon as the weather warms up i'll have a look at the carb linkages and a new exhaust. To be honest other campers in some of the campgrounds around weren't to pleased when i would fire it up to recharge the battery. [Razz] Thanks again Shanning.
