I own a 1980 B-200 SWB (110") van with a 360 4bbl. It has the 4 headlight setup and is is metallic brown. It has all options like air, tilt, cruise, power: windows, locks, steering, and brakes, sun roof, non sliding door, 4 apeed auto w/ lock up torque converter, am/fm/8 track 4 speaker stereo, running boards, and almost every other option avaliable. It also has a couch/bed in the back as the only other seat other than the driver and passenger. I have some questions to ask: 1) is a 360 4bbl (1" primarys & 2.25" secondaries!) very common is a B-200 SWB? 2) Being it is a B-200, isnt it a 3/4 ton? 3) If it is then why does it only have 5 bold wheels? 4) What would the rear end ratio be? 5) What are some performance specs for the motor etc...? Thank you. | | | Re: Hello! #86020 December 14th 2001 8:56 pm | Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 1,088 old hand | old hand Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 1,088 | Hi Ben E-Farrer, Welcome aboard, Sounds like a nice VAN. Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 | Greetings Ben; Welcome to the forum. I can't answer all of your questions but a can some. As far as the carb; All mopar 4 barrels since the early 70's were that way (it's called a spread bore). I believe the purpose is to give much more air and fuel when needed (that's why if you ever hear the old police mopars they sound like vacuum cleaners when they get on them. I believe the 200 is a 3/4 ton but most van makers only put 6 or 8 lugs on the one tons. The rear ratio can vary depending on what was ordered when new. There should be a tag on one of the bolts on the rear cover. The tag numbers will tell you if you take them to a dealer and check on replacement gears. As far as the performance specs. if you get a Chilton manual for that year it will tell you. Hope this helps Superbeast ------------------ Ken Schwarz Tricky Truckers,N.J. | | | Re: Hello! #86022 March 23rd 2002 1:06 am | Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 2,699 Likes: 1 veteran | veteran Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 2,699 Likes: 1 | Welcome aboard Ben and u to Superbeast. I dont claim to be an expert on this stuff but Ive owned a few dodge vans The B200 is a 3/4, the 5 lug pattern is prob a bit bigger then the 5 lug pattern on a B100. I dont think the 360 is to common in the swb vans, that was prob a special order, especially since u seem to have a whole lot of nice factory options, someone spent a few bucks when they bought that van new. You may also find the rear end ratio on the underhood sticker. Im surprise to hear an 80 had a 4 speed auto in it, didnt think they started that untill much later. Im going out on a limb here and Im gonna guess at your HP rating- 165. Good luck w the van, sounds like a nice one. The 360 was a common the the swb because they rigged the B-200 to be heavier duty for towing. A couple years later they "invented" the new V6 engines and got a lot more power out of them and swapped out the 360 for a V6 as the common engine. Talk about extremes. My dodges were both regular wheelbase, and have had both 318 and 360. Could really spin the tires with the 360, but the gas milage?? The V6 shows promise so far in my kid's van, but we haven't run it loaded yet, Knowing him, it may end up with a 360 sooner or later. | | | Re: Hello! #86024 March 26th 2002 5:14 pm | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 3,302 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 3,302 | I have a 79 swb, also with a 360, but I put that in. My rear end is 3.55, which is a bit steep on the highway, but make it a good launcher. If you can't find the inspection tag or underhood sticker, there is a pretty easy way to find out the ratio. Jack up the rear of the van, mark a place on the tire and a place on the driveshaft, have someone put it in gear with the brakes on so the tire moves slowly and count how many times the tire turns compared to the driveshaft, that's your ratio. driveshaft:tire. The B-200 is a 3/4 ton, all the 3/4 ton Dodges were 5 lug up until around 2000, when they started putting 8 lugs on them. In 1980, only the 1 tons were 8 lugs. The 1980 5 lug should still be the "small" Chrysler pattern of 5 x 4.5 (which means tims from any Dodge muscle car will fit it), later they changed to 5 x 5.5, but I'm not sure which year. That engine should have a hp rating of about 190hp at the flywheel. I hope all this helps! Hurricane Wayne II | | |
