Just a heads up for anyone needing a condenser for a 1983-1991 van. The company making them has their head where the sun does not shine. They are selling them without any means to attach them to the core support on the driverside. In addition the tubes are getting smashed and bent in either manufacture or shipping. Looked at 5 different examples and they were all the same way. In the end for my 87 G20 build, I ordered a diesel condenser with the inlet on the driverside. It better matches the ac layout now that I have moved the compressor to the driverside with the L31 brackets. The only perplexing issue with that is that condenser shows to be a parallel flow, even has PFC at the end of the part number, which the retailers catalog denote as a parallel flow and it shows up as an old fashioned tube a fin. If you need to work on the ac in the future on your van, might have to change to a universal condenser and visit an AC hose shop. The replacement condensers being made for our vans are pure garbage now. Made wrong, missing a bracket that should be included, or setup wrong for refrigerants other than R12. I honestly do not understand how these same wrong units are all over the place now and nobody seems to care that they are missing pieces or not even being made how they should be. I will add, I had a product alert sent in through Oreilly back in June or July as well as spoke with Four Seasons and even tried to get a return processed through Four Seasons as I had bought straight from them on Amazon as a 3rd party. No response back, no RMA authorization, nothing from them. Apparantly Four Seasons has gone way downhill as a company! The sad part is Oreilly, Autozone, Advanced, NAPA, RockAuto and 1800Radiator ALL have the same wrong units!

This is how the gas unit is being shipped.

Here is how the diesel one shows it should be constructed. The photo is of the unit allegidly being sold.

This is the inefficient, garbage old style tube and fin unit being shipped.

Atleast the tube and fin will get me going, if I can ever get one to me that has both tubes straight and not bent or mushroomed into a 90* or more bend from being thrown loosely into an oversize box. The tube a fin style is about 30% less efficient though and restricts more airflow through the cooling stack than a much thinner parallel flow. Neither being a good thing since I live in Texas with ambient air temp often reaching 115-120F above the road on a summer day. Good thing I put an 11-bladed S10 clutch fan on the L31.

Most replacement A/C parts in general have been pretty much garbage for a while, they are covering 20 applications with one part number most of the time. Thanks for the heads up.

After a lot of digging around through actual catalogs, I think I found my condenser. I have ordered an inexpensive amazon unit for mockup purposes and perhaps even it will survive a while. The mounting points should sit in the trough shaped depressions in the OE core support and I have some 1" thick, 6mm rubber cushion stud mounts on the way for it to ride around on. Old van is going to be part Peterbilt spec now.

I ordered one from Rock Auto early last year for my 91 Shorty and it fit and installed just fine….seems to be working as designed….

Recently purchased (10-2021) a 1991 Chevy G-20 “Shorty”. Past vans are a 1976 Chevy G-10 (purchased new in 1976 & sold in 1995). A 1978 Chevy G-20 Shorty purchased in 2010 and sold in 2015.

You must have gotten lucky and got an older design pico unit. Every last one on RockAuto or in the auto parts stores since this past summer has been missing part of the mounting bracket setup.

I want my ac to blow ~30F when it is 110F outside, so the larger the parallel flow condenser I can fit the better.

Parrallel flow is certainly the way to go, did that in my 94 c1500 and was actually getting 33* vent temps at idle parked in the sun with a 98* ambient.

Walmart is the best place I have found to actually get 134a these days. Like $5 a can for the pure Dupont 134a without the addatives, oils, or butane... That is unless you have one of the bulk tanks.

Peterbilt replacement condenser fit into place. No longer have to worry about the undersized "drop-in" van replacement not fitting.

Adapt to survive. Good info which may very well be what is required to an extent if the situation with parts get even worse, which we all have seen, and can see coming, what with the war on ICE, Automobile culture and use. Which is absoloutely neccessary for transportation in America.

Electrification is a pipe dream. With lousy smoke. Any normal person with a brain knows that.
Ask any Lineman what will happen if every home in America cranked up a 220 volt Lincoln Tombstone arc welder at 90 amps at the exact same time. Here?
Every transformer on every pole will explode, and the power lines will melt. Facts and Truth. Unlike whatcha see on TV.
Be prepared. Vaya con, can't say it Vannners
