I have an 88 G20 factory conversion van and recently noticed a couple of drips coming out of a seam in my headliner.

I removed a couple panels of the headliner to have a look for leaks and didn't find a smoking gun. No obvious places for water to intrude and it honestly looks like all the water is just condensation on the cold metal roof.

Living in Maine, this time of year has a lot of temperature fluctuations and we'll have snow one day, rain the next.
I'm thinking the sun warms up the moist air inside the van, but the cold exterior temps/snow on the roof create a perfect cold zone in the ceiling for water vapor to condense.

Has anyone encountered this in their own vans?

I've heard tell about that up in Washington, Western Oregon, you could search the site using the search the site button at left. Make suse it's not a saggy door pin/rubber door seal issue up top, leaking.

Both my fiberglass hardtops , and even the steel roof on the EXT don't get condensate. I left the factory thin skin roof sound deadener on and paneled the panels to the roof ribs. Using short screws! And 4 inch wooden bats at the rib seams.

Really cold weather needs a moisture barrier under the insulation. Especially if you sleep or camp in the van. Used to have this problem in the winter time with an unfinished interior. A lot of the conversion companies skip that step.
Reflectex works very well as a retrofit when applied directly to the inside metal skin. Helps keep down condensation forming on the cold metal.

One of my Astro vans sweats like that, pulled the headliner and the conversion company used 1" foam rubber for insulation.

Good tips.

The ceiling originally had pink fiberglass insulation but it had gotten turned into a mouse house at some point so I ripped it all out and put in some foil faced foam board. Realizing now that this is probably great at trapping moisture.

Maybe i'll re-redo it with the reflectex stuff.
I was also thinking of maybe just throwing a bunch of giant silica gel packets up there and forgetting about it lol
