Thanks guys. So far it's not looking like the best minivan out there (probably would have been smarter to go with Toyota or at least something without the emissions nightmare of VCM), or the smartest purchase, but I will keep driving on for now to see if we can whip this thing into shape. What I was hoping for was a few easy fixes, but with winter hitting hard and fast, as well as a handful of other projects occupying my garage and half the driveway I'm resorting to taking it to a shop to get all the work done that my broken old butt can't tolerate doing in the driveway in 40 degree weather.

I took it for a ride last night just down the road to my friend's house to have him give me an opinion on the weird smell from the exhaust, as I couldn't quite put my finger on it. His thoughts are the VCM system loading up those rear three cylinders. It makes sense to me now that he points it out, it's almost a hint of catalytic converter, with a touch of sweetness, so probably carbon in the VCM spool valve thingamabob and junk being pushed through from those three cylinders.

I was worried it was possibly antifreeze since I'm not very used to the smell of the Asian blue stuff burning off, but I wasn't getting any signs of that in the oil or radiator thankfully. It's also running at a consistent 200-ish degrees. Now I just get to play the waiting game for Rock Auto to deliver my boat load of parts and for the mechanic's shop to have room/time to get me in as everyone in our area is completely booked. Are you all seeing huge waiting lists and wait times in your area for mechanics? Been that way for about 2 years here and doesn't look to ease up anytime toon. We've even had a couple new shops open in the last year, and now they are completely booked for weeks/months.

On the way home last night, I noticed I was only getting cool air out of the driver side dash vents, nice warm air out of the passenger side. I'm going to do a climate control self test in just a little while, but I suspect the driver side blend door actuator is not doing its job and will need to be taken apart and cleaned. I ordered a 3M headlight restoration kit from Amazon yesterday and am very anxious to get those nasty lenses cleaned up. Also installed 3 new wiper blades and two Sylvania silver star headlights yesterday.

Well, I've decided to throw in the towel on this one and move on. I'm sure it would make someone a good vehicle with a bit of work, but it's throwing too many issues my way and trying to do all these repairs on a fixed income and disabled is not going to work. I posted it for sale on Facebook for $1,000 and have already had a TON of messages, but nobody really serious yet. Huge bummer, I was really hoping I could work the bugs out and enjoy this thing, but this morning on the way to get my VA state inspection done, she started overheating, and that was the last straw.

you check head gaskets? I have a venture that had a bad head gasket and never had coolant in oil. you could smell the sweet smell through exhaust, and any time you started going on the freeway it would start to overheat. was a pain in the as and had to bleed the cooling system CONSTANTLY
