I have a large smoker that weighs a lot (3500lbs), and my van is the traditional 350/700r4 set up. As i look online, i don't see this set up with towing recommendations. Any vanners towed something this big on this drivetrain. Thanks in advance

I've hauled 4,000+/- on my 6x12 high side single axle utility trailer that's only rated for 3,500 lbs with my old 2000 Astro AWD 4.3 V6 auto. It hauled like a dream, so I'm sure your van will do great if your trailer can hack it.

My 82 G10 had a 350/th350 combo and hauled a dirt track race trailer with a Ford Pinto, tools, and parts all through the 80s & 90s. The key thing for any tow vehicle is a trans cooler. Don't rely on the one in the radiator, do yourself a favor and put an external cooler on.

Even with high miles, my 83 G20 regularly towed a 24 ft pontoon boat and trailer that weighed more than that (boat was about 2,800-3,000 lbs depending on how it was loaded and the trailer about 800) with a 305/700r4/3.08s. My dad and I loading the boat up years ago before he passed away. Took us to lakes all over Texas fishing. IIRC the 83 G20 305 was rated about 5,000 lbs towing with the standard setup and 6,500 with 3.73s and heavy duty cooling. It did not win any races but pulled it right along. For 3 or 4 years that is all that van was used for. Dragging us around camping or fishing.
