Well my 91 Shorty is going into the bump & paint shop soon…..when done my first project is insulating the van. Not worried about winter cold and do not dive it in the during the winter. My major goal is to try and quiet down all the rattles, etc…..Would like use one of the sound barrier matting available now for the walls and ceiling not sure what would be best for the floor but I have no problem spending a bit for for a better sound barrier matting, just wondering which brand works the best.
Also any suggestions for what to use for the floor? Thinking a sound matting first and carpet padding over that? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Recently purchased (10-2021) a 1991 Chevy G-20 “Shorty”. Past vans are a 1976 Chevy G-10 (purchased new in 1976 & sold in 1995). A 1978 Chevy G-20 Shorty purchased in 2010 and sold in 2015.

I know a lot of people use Dynamat thinking it is an insulator, but it really just calms the rattles down. I used this cheapie 1/4 rubber foam with a heat shield on it from eBay, but I think I am going to replace it with a real insulation like wool after the paint is done.

Kilmat is a great product and is cheaper than Dynamat. Its great for stopping the metal vibrations throughout the van. I put it on every surface I could, including both faces of the doors. I used the heavier duty materials on the doors, espcially the fronts since I sit up there.

I had some extra reflectix on hand so I put that on the floor, then used a 1/2" subfloor over that, carpet padding over that and carpet as the final finish. The sub floor will work even for a wood flooring. I found it useful for the other wood connections too in my interior build out.

QUESTION ABOUT "I used the heavier materials on the doors".:
I assume you mean the Kilmat product(s)? They have a 80 mil that I can find but they also list a 100 mil that I cannot find anywhere. By "heavier materials" do you mean you used the 100 mil? If not what did you use?

thanks

Yes I used the 80mil on all the doors. I did have some stinger super heavy duty panels from a co worker and used those on the front doors where I could and 80 mil on the rest. They did not have the 100mil kilmat at the time I bought mine.
