Out of all the 4x4 first gens I've seen, they either swapped the frame or didn't say. Is it
"just as simple" as fitting a driven axle under the front leaves and changing the steering link? What kind of transfer case and transmission is used? Almost every one I've seen uses a C4 swap (I'm assuming for ease of linkages and available T.C. options).
I'm looking at using a 300 six, and dana 44 front, keeping my 9" rear. I would like to keep the stock frame if possible, chassis reinforcing doesn't scare me. I have the shorty 3.03 transmission, which could work with a 203/205 case. I'm thinking cramming a more modern 4/5 speed and married case would be a tight fit at best when allowing reasonable driveshaft angles/length even if I don't lift the van.
If anyone has a 4x4 first gen, I'd love to hear from you on how your van came together!
