I have a fiberglass front roof visor I would like to install. Should I rtv the back side of the screw holes first to stop leaks. I feel like 15 screw holes popped into the roof and A pillars is definitely going to cause a leak. Anyone have any advice.

They are not thick washers more of a rubber mat mat'l .. bout .063 tk with no hole. They drove the panhead screws right thru the rubber and ATV'ed both sides of the rubber. Then onto the van roof.

That was exactly what I was thinking of doing. Going to the hardware store tonight to see if I can find a roll of sheeting. I think worst case if I can't find anything I'll use an old bike inner tube.

I used the "top-hat" type of expanding hard rubber anchors with rubber washers for the ends. In the middle I added an extra steel plate inside. Wanted to add the extra strength and prevent flexing.

It might be worth considering the hinge-top snap caps as a finishing touch, in addition to the rubber shims/washers, which will help protect your paint from chipping.

I got my snap caps from McMaster-Carr. They are available from other sources as well, in a variety of colors, including Chrome and Gold.

I'd suggest using stainless steel screws so the heads don't corrode away over time. The last thing you want will be to have to wrestle with screws whenever you want to dismount the visor, like if you have to have your windshield replaced. There are screws with broader heads called truss head screws which spread their clamping force over a wider area. They work really well with rubber washers to prevent cracking of fiberglass.

Here's the link to the McMaster-Carr Page:
