This van companion chewed something underneath the van and now it won't stay running. It cranks fine but then dies. I attached a couple of pictures of what she chewed. I appreciate anyone that takes time to help.

She chewed her seat too. rolleyes

Those purple and green wires are for the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor).
The wires and connector should be available as replacement parts, but don't hold me to that.

I don't see how that would cause the van to die, though.
It should be just for calculating the van's speed.
Maybe it's shorting together where it's chewed and is sending a solid tone to the computer?

The dog chewed something underneath the van and now it cranks, starts, and then dies within a minute. It is definitely not a battery problem. If I could find a labeled diagram of the underside, I could get a better idea of what was chewed up and what the wires were in charge of..

At least I know something about the wires now.
It can't be the battery because I've got the solar panel hooked up. Maybe the chewed wires and running problems are unrelated?

A woof woof Welcome! Seems Santa has a highly ironic sense of humor this year. Looks like I'll be cracking into some G Van FSM reading material. Until then, check, fuel pump. Usually Chevy FP's totally fail, IME, but check output, continuity . An ASD relay shuts it down too, that might be a Dodge tinhg. It's still early. FSM for Chevy are on EBay. Good luck. Check back.
I've only got one speed, and that's however long it takes...

OK notjenny, please excuse the delay, had a situation. We need model, engine, transmission. VIN, and RPO codes.

My 1990 FSM has 6 different 4L60 internal wiring configuartions. Wow. So. IDK if even FRSCKE1 can find it without the information below, but do I know he's got the books for 1992. LOL.

IDK if the Chevy books we have will accurately cross refererence either. They say Chevrolet Truck, both FSM, and Electrical manual. My 1985-91 Parts book, says G Van.
GM is usually pretty good about parts interchangability. The Transmissions specific ID codes may be the same as GMC, IDK.

What Engine/Tranny combo? I'd assume 350/4L60 but it apparently matters, and I can't be specific in the wire color ID without the year specific GMC Vandura FSM manual. So. VIN, any RPO code regarding engine and transmission will help ID your specific model transmission.

I used to have my parts guy at the Dodge dealer look up stuff on his computer, all the time. I'd definitely try that at Chevy if I had to. I can try that not trunning troubleshooting anway, and report back. Stay with it. And again, Welcome. welcome

Good Hunting.

She hasn't been here since December 25th of 2021 guys. Seems like a lot of the "van life" crowd come and go quickly. I notice on the Facebook groups a lot of folks that fall into the van life craze try it for 6 to 12 months, get in over their head with 30+ year old junk wagons and no mechanical experience, then try to offload the vans for astronomical figures.
