Have a 91 shorty. Interior is blue and plans are to change over to black. Has the OEM 3 point front seat belts. My choices are
(1) to take the seat belt assemblies apart and send the webbing assemblies in to get changed to to black (not a cheap venture by the way)
(2) Purchase an aftermarket "lap" set that the buckle will fit into the OEM "receiver" (on the driver's side it has the connector for the seat belt warning buzzer).

see photos

Considerations:
(1) Problem besides the cost is getting the plastic/vinyl cover off to access the webbing assemblies. Does anyone know how to do that? The cover seems to be riveted in place with two rivets. Only way I can see to get them out is to drill them out but then how to get it back on after it has been pained black? There is a large bolt on the bottom...tried taking it off but it just spins and does not come out...must be some sort of nut inside that cannot be accessed with the cover on.

(2). Cheapest option. Will the aftermarket male end of the belt fit into the OEM buckle so I can keep the sensor working?

thanks

The driver side belt on mine wouldn’t retract properly so I replaced both of the seatbelts with these from Wesco:

I ordered the “retro metal” buckle option. When they arrived I checked and the belts did fit into the OEM GM buckle, so you should be able to still use yours if you want. The original buckles on mine had unfortunately corroded from how they lay on the carpet for years without being used so I swapped them out with the new ones. No sensor in mine so that wasn’t a concern.

The wescos are probably a way easier option than dealing with taking apart your current belt.

Good luck!

Thought I'd throw some pics up. First one shows the retractor bolted to the floor. It shares the rear outer bolt of the seat mount. I put an extra mounting plate underneath for extra strength/safety. You can see where the original retractor bolted onto the seat.
2nd pic shows the 11" sleeve and the "retro metal" buckle option bolted on the seat where the og buckle went.

I sent Wesco an email with all the info on what I am trying to do (including photos)..purchase their aftermarket 3 point system and reuse my OEM sleeve ends with the buzzer connection in it and was told their male buckle ends will not fit in the OEM sleeve female buckle.

I’ve been looking at the photos on the Wesco site as well as a couple others and the ones with GM style female buckle the male ends look just like mine so I’m gonna take chance and order a set and guess worst case I can always send them back……
Thanks for the replies
