OK, I've little doubt this will be among the first of many questions I'll bug everybody with.

I've got a '95 Chevy G20 HighTop, when I bought it & brought it home it was setting level but there was a lot of body sway, curves and cross winds were kinda scary to say the least. Lol The tires were almost new but only had about 28psi in them, I took them up to 40psi (rated at 44psi) Helped a little but still a long way to go.

It had a monster set of coil-over shocks on the front end and a set of air shocks on the rear that were blown up over 110psi to make things level out. My next thought was to drop the air pressure in the rear shocks so it would handle better, but that made it almost a tail dragger & it didn't take much of a bump to make it hit the rubber snubbers. The front shocks with the coil-overs were relatively fresh, but when I pulled them it had about the same effect as dropping air pressure to 20psi on the rear shocks. It sat down like a Low Rider, but I wasn't comfortable with it hitting the snubbers all the time. And still sways & rocks bad in the wind & curves.

Step One was a new set of gas charged shocks, maybe a little better but still way to low. I figured 25 years of being loaded down had taken it's toll on the springs.

Step Two was a spring upgrade the front end. A new set of front coils from a G30, I checked spring specs for them both (stock vs upgrade) & talked to a good alignment shop, put them on, had the front end checked & aligned and now it sets about the same as when it had the coil-overs, but handles & drives better.

Step Three was to add an extra leaf to each of the rear leaf springs, it was a bit more of a pain but the end result is it sets level with the minimum air pressure (10psi) in what looked like almost new air shocks that were in the rear.

I know it weighs almost 3 tons & has about the aerodynamics of a brick and that extra 14" of fiberglass up top wasn't on the drawing board... I don't expect it to handle like a sports car but, I'm still hopeful.

My question is: What's everybody doing for sway control? I see a lot of you have 4X4's, Shorty's & High Tops, all prone to excessive sway & roll, I can't be the only one trying to deal with this, any Ideas? I'm thinking replace the stock front 1" sway bar with at least 1-1/8" & since mine doesn't have anything on the rear, maybe 1-1/4" in the rear??

Sorry to write a book, but I thought it might help to know what I've already done & might help somebody else with the same issues.

Thanks for looking,

Joe

I installed a Hellwig front swaybar and an Addco rear swaybar. I also recently upgraded to Bilstein shocks which provide a much smoother ride and better handling.

There's another company, Roadmaster, that offers a rear swaybar kit that I may looking into because I'm really not happy with how the Addco bar mounts.

How big (diameter) is the Addco that you bought? I see they've got several different kits 1" to 1-1/4".
And if you don't mind my asking, what part of the mounting were you not happy with? I've put a few (aftermarket & OEM) and I agree, there are some pretty cheesy mounting brackets out there!

So did the new Blue Rubber things help? Mine are the black factory rubber ones, but they look pretty good & seem to be live, not all nasty & cracked. I guess a new set of urethane is only about $20, might be worth a try.
By the way your van looks as good from the bottom as from the top!

I just replaced the bushings on my say bar as one was non existant. If yours are in better condition than mine were it may not make much of a difference. But for me it made a huge difference. Doesn't feel as tippy if that makes sense. I got mine on Amazon for like $9 for 2 BTW.

wondering what you do not like about how the addco mounts? how is that different than the hellwig or roadmaster. I am deciding which brand to go with. I am also looking at the roadmaster . I have a normal g30 van not a dually or class c motohome and wondering if that 1109-121 will fit or not. it says for "G30 Cutaway - Class C and Emergency Vehicle" but not the dually. I need one just for regular g30 van.. Thanks.
