Has anyone replaced the airbag steering wheel with a custom wheel with no airbag?

It will throw a code if you take out the airbag wheel and might not pass inspection, depending on your state.

I used to live on Flomich in Holly Hill, FL back in the 90s. Fun times.

I'm sure you can bypass the airbag code somehow, but I avoid airbag rides for customizing so I don't have to deal with that mess. Not sure what all it would take either.

I replaced the airbag steering wheel on our '94 GMC with a Grant GT. No ECM codes but you'll get an airbag light on all the time till you remove the bulb.
Be careful, the first edition airbags are dangerous. Although IMO the early airbags usually do more harm than good you would be removing it at your own risk.
The newer, smarter airbags I'm convinced save lives but the early ones just added an explosion to a collision. My 2%.

I pulled the stock monster wheel out of my '95 Chevy G20, dumped the airbag & replaced it with a 13-1/2" custom wheel, had to get an adapter for an '91 & remove the bulb from the cluster.
Also swapped out the Turn Signal/Multi-Switch arm with one out of a '94 AstroVan, it was a couple inches shorter & made it lots more user friendly.
And for what it's worth, I agree with Catfish about the early/older ones possibly being more trouble than they are good when you need them. Use at your own risk...
