Passenger seat removal, he had it off the base when I got there, was working on removing the seat base bolts, not really, just putting every heavy ratchet and breaker bar in the van to see if we could crack their finish with a hammer, accidentally removed 2 bolts, but the other 2 are good and seized in there, so we can do it again tomorrow, thinking about using the torch, I've been dying to get a smell of the 30+ year old soaked floor mat burning. So thrilled the seat base is designed so the power handle will not allow the fit of a cheater pipe, gonna take pure muscle, perfect for a 70 year old and a 50 year old wheelchair user, we got this shit, should be no problem, can't wait to get at the drivers side. Previous owner likes the color red, it covers all the patchwork hes jammed on the floor, answered why he used a tube of caulk to secure the doghouse to the floor, he didn't want to spoil his work by drilling a hole in it to secure the housing with bolts, just tore off the mount on the passenger side. When I pulled up the soaking wet floor mat, the metal beneath it was a beautiful shade of orange, similar to what you find in photos of the titanic, absolutely no indication there could possibly be a windshield leak at all, good thing, the guy who said he could replace it, how easy it was as a one man job and he could for sure get a new one, he's not called back. Now I had plans of fiberglassing the floor up front to care for the rust but indications are, the doghouse is sitting on nothing, I have no idea how to form the sheets up to make the lip that it seals against, I have no patch panels either. We were took to the cleaners on this deal, now we have to deal with it, yet I haven't an idea how to get it done, even if I can get the front floor fixed, I have water works on the back doors, I am completely disgusted, stupid teenage twit runs a light and totals my 73, and now this on its replacement. | | | Re: So what did you do this weekend??? | Joined: Jul 2019 Posts: 11,196 Likes: 408 Post Junkie | Post Junkie Joined: Jul 2019 Posts: 11,196 Likes: 408 | Last week replaced the fuel pump. | | | Re: So what did you do this weekend??? | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 3,601 Likes: 10 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 3,601 Likes: 10 | Harbor Freight 25" long 1/2" breaker bar, this is a fine tool for the price, I got the seat base bolts out, I had to heat one, it broke on me, may opt to drill it out and tap the hole, no access to the bottom for putting a nut on a bolt. The floor is very rusty, Ive cleaned the passenger side and put naval jelly on it, ordered replacement panels, I hope they don't take long to come in, I need it completed to make it to GSVR. This will be the last time I do this much work to a vehicle, I'm too old, and so is dad, we had not expected to have to do so much work, I think after replacing the floor pans, I am going to put fiberglass over them to water proof it all, just in case the windshield can't be sealed. | | | Re: So what did you do this weekend??? | Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 2,290 Likes: 137 veteran | veteran Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 2,290 Likes: 137 | Jasmine (16) and I started the morning out cleaning the dryer vent out and shorting the vent hose to get better air flow.
The tires on our hand truck were dry rotten and kept going flat, so we grabbed some never-flat wheels from Harbor Freight while we were grabbing parts for the QAR van, and replaced those when we got home.
Several parts runs for starter bolts and shims. Spent a lot of time swapping starters and determined the wires are just too garbage to continue, so planning on splicing in some wires tomorrow and re-routing those. Not sure what all else we will get into tomorrow. | | | Re: So what did you do this weekend??? | Joined: Aug 2020 Posts: 272 Likes: 31 enthusiast | enthusiast Joined: Aug 2020 Posts: 272 Likes: 31 | Went to Bar City Vans truck-in in West Salem Wisconsin..I go truck ins,how about you? | | | Re: So what did you do this weekend??? | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 264 Likes: 3 enthusiast | enthusiast Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 264 Likes: 3 | I haven't been doing much of anything this year or going anywhere with the 69 A-108 van due to taking care of an elderly sick relative out of state. This weekend I had the chance to go to a car show on Saturday, and a cruise in on Sunday. I didn't win anything and the only other vans I saw both days was one VW poptop camper van painted with really nice hippy style art. One thing I noticed both days was the kids really liked seeing the van, which was worth more to me than a trophy. The younger kids probably liked it because it was similar to the Scooby Doo van, I don't know, but some teenagers and young adults liked it too. Even though I got there late and had to park in the outback, it's easy to see a full size A body van from a distance, and some people make the trek out to where it was parked. (in at least 2 cases because they were following the kids) The younger kids looked bored at the nice looking 55-57 chevy's or sports cars, but when my van (or the VW) was spotted, that sparked interest, including people taking pictures. | 2 members like this:

Almost... Almost got the POSifica back together yesterday. Was going to finish it (or get close to it) today, but saw an ad for a boat that looked nice, so we contacted the guy about it. We'd been looking to get a smaller boat than our old one ever since we sold it (last spring), but the market has been so crazy that prices were high and availability was low.
It got so bad that I actually gave up the hunt for several months. I casually looked the other day, and saw that some boats were not sold after two or three days on the market, so I figured it might be safe to venture back in.
We brought one home today. YAY! | | |
