How many miles does it have? | | | Re: blue smoke engine | Joined: Jan 2021 Posts: 37 Likes: 1 newbie | OP newbie Joined: Jan 2021 Posts: 37 Likes: 1 | Yeah, that's my last guess... I'm burning about half quart of oil for 200 miles | | | Re: blue smoke engine | Joined: Jan 2021 Posts: 37 Likes: 1 newbie | OP newbie Joined: Jan 2021 Posts: 37 Likes: 1 | I'm burning 1/2 quart every 200 miles or so. The coolant leak is unnoticeable from anything besides seeing signs of it on a couple spark plugs | | | Re: blue smoke engine | Joined: Jan 2021 Posts: 37 Likes: 1 newbie | OP newbie Joined: Jan 2021 Posts: 37 Likes: 1 | My mechanic friend said it's possible to replace the head gaskets from underneath, by dropping the oil pan. From there he can replace the head gaskets and intake gaskets, and test the piston rings to see if they are the problem.
He is suggesting this for the purpose of saving money and labor from having to pull the whole engine out
What you guys think? | | | Re: blue smoke engine | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 18,286 Likes: 559 | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 18,286 Likes: 559 |

I'm still saying probably rings. Should try a compression test on the cylinders. If some are showing low, you could go on to a Wet Compression Test to further verify where the issue is. | | | Re: blue smoke engine | Joined: Jan 2021 Posts: 37 Likes: 1 newbie | OP newbie Joined: Jan 2021 Posts: 37 Likes: 1 | I'm getting 120 on all cylinders but one is at 135... Didn't do the wet test tho. All I know if puffin out CLOUDS of smoke everywhere I go is no bueno | | | Re: blue smoke engine | Joined: Feb 2016 Posts: 1,266 Likes: 43 old hand | old hand Joined: Feb 2016 Posts: 1,266 Likes: 43 | My Dodge 318 is 155-165psi on all cylinders for comparison. 120 is kinda low and would guess its ring related as well.

The engines aren't too hard to swap if you have a shop and engine lift. My girls did mine when they were 14 & 15 under my supervision. Just takes a little time and patience. I'd yank that thing out and either swap in another, or go through her proper. | | |
