I skipped work on Saturday to attend a memorial service but then I jumped feet first into getting the truck on Sunday
When I called AAA for the tow, their automated system asked for the make of the vehicle needing tow and then said "For example, you can say: Ford...".
I see what you did there, AAA.
The original owner was too sick to come out and see the truck off but I spent an hour sitting with his wife and talking about it. Her husband started working at the Ford plant in San Jose in the early 70's. He special ordered the truck before the plant closed and then continued to work for Ford until he retired around 2010. His wife was very sad because they got the truck about 6 months before their first daughter was born. I am very honored that I can be the next owner and keep it on the road.
The interior of the truck is so original. It even has the factory AM/FM radio. I plan to keep it and just get newer speakers in the door and under the dash. I'll get one of those radio receivers to get my phone's blue tooth to connect it or something. The BF Goodrich tires need a replacement. two are bald and two are on their way. I found a good deal on some Mickey Thompson Deegan tires but I have to make sure the size is right.
The interior of the camper shell isn't the best. You can definitely see water damage and rotting wood. The carpet will need a heavy vacuuming. But, I don't plan to sleep in it. It is all for parts hauling so I am good with it. I gotta repair the camper shell door latch and one of the window operators.
The old Elixir vent on top is busted and I imagine a lot of water is coming in through there. I have that junkyard Venturi Vent I'll throw on and call it good. Now I get to work a three front battle. Finish the van body work, get the truck running and smogged, and get my daily driver cleaned up and sold.
