Hello all, I am doing a resto mod of a 1976 G30 125". I am going to be converting my 350 to a Edelbrock Pro Flow 3 EFI system. I bought the system used for a great (cheap) price. I am collecting parts now and need to figure out the fuel pump. I am aware they make a sump system that will work with the existing tank but want to see if I can use a tank with an in tank pump from a later model. I am open to slight mods or tanks from trucks so on. I am on a tight budget so custom tanks are out at this point.

1)When I search for new replacement tanks, all seem to mention 1977 on. Are the 1976 an older different?

2) I need between 40 to 60 PSI fuel pressure. Do any later model tanks fit? I need more pressure than the TBI systems but it may be easier to upgrade the pump if a post TBI tank wont fit.

Thanks Jamie.

I'm not sure if later models fit, but if they do, you want a 87+ version since it'll have the baffle in the bottom to protect the in-tank pump when fuel level is low. If you go external pump, it'll be noisier, but overall much easier.

If you look up the dorman tanks online for an 87+ g20 the 22 gallon is 12.38"H x 31"L x 22"w. The 33 gallon is 12.25"h x 31"l x 31"w. Measure your stock tank, if you can fit one of these you then get an appropriate sending unit. You're going to have to make lines, but you can get a high pressure pump and install it in tank at least.

I have a 2002 fuel pump out loose if you need dimensions, you may be able to drop it in, or someone who does custom tanks can do one that will take the later fuel pump assembly.

I suspect the 87-up tank will fit easily since they're hung with straps and the inlet is in the same place. I would consider making an access hatch in the floor for the top of the pump.

The 1997-up with EFI have nylon fuel lines from tank to the trans crossmember. Stainless from there. I would look at making my own lines to use the later fuel filter and plug into the sending unit. I can't remember if there's a return line on the TBI vans.

Thank you pontiac59, great information. I ended up scoring an Edelbrock remote sump system from a friend for a great price.
