Under the hood of my B100 shorty. Who did this? I see the signature, but that can’t be right.. I got an email address for the owner of the van, before the guy I bought it from, but he never got back to me. Was it popular to pinstripe under the hood at a point, or is it still?

It’s definitely radical.

Figured this forum was my best shot at answers.

I’ll have er sitting with the hood open at Nats, as it’s super cool and has to be shared. I’d like to credit whoever did it.

I have seen some show vans that had pinstrip work done under the hood. Not many of them though. I don't know who did yours but it looks awesome.

Even though it says Von Dutch, it does not look like Ken Howard's NORMAL Signature (V and D don't connect, not underlined). I am not all knowing on his work or even saying it was always signed this way, but I am not sure I ever saw his signature any other way. I am guessing there were 2 stripers, or the "-151-R" put the Von Dutch as Homage? Maybe "Old Skool Stripes" was his Business name? Hell, Maybe VD striped it with somebody else at a car show as a friendly collaboration. If the hood was on the van, it could have been tough for him to do his signature like normal. you never really know unless you can have somebody authenticate it. I am telling you, IF IT WAS STRIPED BY VON DUTCH, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!

There used to be a website called "The Pinhead Lounge" that had a very good list of pinstripers/letterers/sign painters and you could have posted this and found answers. Unfortunately that site is gone and their Twitter is basically dead. Maybe the next best thing would be to post a picture on the H.A.M.B. (www.JalopyJournal.com/forum) and see if you get any answers.

If you have a Van hood that WAS actually striped by VD, you should hang that shit on the garage wall and find another. LOL. It may be worth some money.

I found a pic of VD from what it says was 1983, and there is a Mid Dodge behind him obviously at a car show on the east coast (Lead East). Very possible he was striping at the show.....and hell, it could be your van! How wild would that be?

Yeah, doesn't look like V.D. work to me either. I'm guessing that the artist is the 151-R and he wrote Von Dutch as an homage to him of sorts.

Consistency of lines and symmetry look quite novice, though if done with hood installed it would be a bit of a bear.

exactly. if it was 2 different artists, you could understand the symmetry issue, but the lines dont look like what one would expect from somebody that had been pulling paint for over 20 years.
