So I went to the nationals in Albert Lea MN and had an absolute blast!
We left Thursday and convoyed the 8 your drive with a couple friends and their sweet vans! The trip was relatively smooth sailing besides some rain, and we arrived at the Nats around dinner time.
We found a high and dry spot to set up camp that wasn't too loud. Ended up being perfect after the rain flooded a previous spot that we tried to camp.
Friday was the Show and Shine and I somehow got lucky enough to get a spot right in the front row! I really enjoyed wandering around and seeing all of the amazing vans and many friends along the way. I didn't take too many pictures, just enjoyed the time.. But I did get these handful. The weather was gloomy, but the rain held off until the show was nearing completion.
And the show field from the grandstands:
Then Friday evening was my favorite part of any Nats. The light show! I only have a couple of blurry pics of the van, but it showed well. I really enjoyed talking to everyone and by the end of the night, I was pretty hoarse. I had an absolute blast though! The vans were all so cool and it's been a dream to be able to have mine lined up with so many icons that have inspired me over the last several years.
Saturday was more laid back there was a nice little cruise around a lake in the morning, and then a show downtown.
We dipped out of the show early and headed back to the campgrounds early for a bucket list opportunity with some very special people that I've dreamed about doing since I bought the van 6 years ago.. If you know, you know. ;)
The rest of Saturday was spent relaxing, hanging out with friends, drinking, looking at vans, and absorbing as much as I could from some of the elders. I had a great time and wish it could have lasted forever.
Saturday evening was the awards ceremony. I have always hoped that I might get an award at the Nats sometime. I would have been over the moon to receive one, but I am so blessed and humbled to have received 2! 1st place 1984-1995 Chevy Street AND Best Overall Paint! I was blown away! I am still kind of in disbelief. I am so blessed to have friends who have helped and pushed me to get it to this level. I'm super proud of these!
I am so thankful to be a part of a community like this. I have my hands in so many different areas of automotive culture, but there is something special and completely different about vanners. They are some of the best, nicest, coolest, and interesting folks I've ever met!
We got home late Sunday in the midst of a thunderstorm and I couldn't help but reflect on the amazing weekend I just had. So many cool experiences, and once in a lifetime opportunities. Bucket list type things that I've dreamt about since buying my van. It's been a rough year, but I'm so blessed. Thank you all for the encouragement over the years!
I guess now I should probably work on picking out a name for this thing ;)
