When I drove through Canada back in '96, the first gas station we stopped at, gas was .85.
Woo-Hoo!
Gas was around $1.29 a gallon in Anchorage when we left, so we got excited there for a second.

Wait... That's .85 a liter? Holy crap!
That's around $3.00 a gallon!
Oh, no... Well, just top it off anyway, since we don't know where the next gas station is.
We had to be careful, too... the stores didn't do currency conversions, so after we ran out of Canadian money, they gouged us even more due to the exchange rate (It was around 1.40 Canadian to 1 US at that time).
Nothing better than paying too much for gas to begin with...
Having to pay for it with US dollars...
Then getting change back in Canadian money.
Yay.
lol

When we finally made it into Montana, everything seemed like it was free.
Gas was $1.18, a bag of chips was $1.99, and all was good again.
lol

It sucks that it's up to $6 there now.

Every SINGLE time I see one of those absolute turds on the streets I am severely tempted to play road pinball with them. I get stuck behind one doing 10-15 MPH under the darn speed limit every time I go somewhere nowadays.

My neighbor just bought a brand new one.
Thinks she's saving the world.
$35,000 for a laptop that makes spaceship sounds when it's "on".
It's kind of cool in a way, but it's WAY overly complicated to be a car.
It has some kind of lane keeping system that will keep you in your lane if you're not paying attention (why does a car need that?).
It kind of works, but I got it to fail twice on a 2 mile test drive on clearly marked roads, so I wouldn't trust it.
At least she's getting good fuel economy, I guess.
I hope she's using a fuel additive, too, because this ethanol fuel goes stale too darn fast.
Yay for saving the world!
lol

I'm surprised she hasn't bitched at me for driving an F-250 that averages about 14 MPG.
I guess she doesn't really have a choice, as I used that truck to go rescue her when she got in an accident recently.

My girlfriend's Subaru has the same thing. It beeps at me when I merge with no signal, when I cross lanes, and when I don't turn enough for the way that it likes; it will turn the wheel a bit more for me. I have to shut all that crap off when I get in and drive it. It gets good mileage on long trips though.

You hear the thunder of stampeding rhinos, elephants and tacky tigers
This town ain't big enough for the both of us
And it ain't me who's gonna leave

Any of you guys getting punished for vehicles that get good gas mileage now? Without getting too political, our current group of dummies in charge of the state recently decided that it would be a good idea to sneak a totally new tax in on us. When I updated the 2014 Civic tags & registration, I had something like a $50 fee tacked on for "Road Use".

Looked it up and apparently the better your vehicle is on gas, the more you get taxed for "Road Usage" fees, topping out somewhere around $80-90 per year. So my old junky V6 and V8s don't get the extra fee, but the Civic does. Thankfully they haven't figured out how great the mileage is on my bikes yet. On one hand they're trying to get everyone to "Go Green" and save the world, but then when we do make responsible choices like something with better MPG, they say "Hey, now that we talked everyone into saving gas, lets tax them for what they're saving." SMDH!

My wife's Crosstrek has a bunch of extra crap like that, and I hate it...
I try not to drive it. LOL

Not here yet, but I'm sure it's coming.
Somehow they figure they're entitled to a certain amount of your money.
Not many people get excited about volunteering their hard earned money to the government so they can waste it, so they have to come up with ways of changing existing systems to make them generate more money.
More money for them to waste.

I really liked the $1.17 back in the good old days last year. Just wait for the Mileage Tax. Touchy subject. Before someone else inadvertentey crosses a line, at this point I will go ahead and step in and take one for the Team.

lol It's all of them, every last money grubbing public servant, and I think we're all preaching the same thing to the choir.
