I have a 1995 g20 explorer package that I'm in the process of converting to a high top camper/weekender. I currently have 17" jeep wheels on but feel too risky having put on 2" spacers to accommodate them, so I am in the process of throwing on 15" American racing wheels with 30/9.5 bfg's. My question. American racing is completely out of outlaw ii's and has 4 baja wheels in stock (I guess everyone bought wheels with their Biden bucks) . 2 of the baja's are 7" wide while the other 2 are 8" wide. Does anyone run staggered fitment? How could I go about rotating the tires? The tires have like a 50k warranty so I may be fine but just curious. Glad to be on this forum! I don't see why you couldn't remount them when you do the rotation? Those BFG's are White Rhino and Big Red tough.
Van ON!

Depending on the tread pattern of the tire, you can swap them side to side, or if they're a directional pattern, have the tires dismounted and remounted to go on the opposite side. | | | Re: rotating tires on staggered wheel set-up | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 18,286 Likes: 558 | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 18,286 Likes: 558 | 1st off get rid of the spacers/adaptors and get 4 of the right rims with the correct offset.
I have BFG's on both of my 1 ton vans. 35" on Red and 245's on my Rhino. GREAT TIRES ! Have had them for decades.
Oh yeah welcome to the site ! !

LT tires usually dont have treadwear warranties. Those.providing treadwear warranty can require prof of rotation. Lt tires are heavier and ride firmer and will cost some mpg. If you dont require the extra sidewall durability and puncture resistance for offroading.....
I have 30.x 9.5 x 15s. Speedo.reads.dead.nuts.accurate at all.speeds.insteadn of 4mph fast as with 235 75 15.
Cooper AT3. Their noise annoys me.
Id love 16 inch rims. I have two aftermarket 15" rims..slightly different offset. They are either on front...or back. | | | Re: rotating tires on staggered wheel set-up | Joined: Apr 2021 Posts: 4 stranger | OP stranger Joined: Apr 2021 Posts: 4 | Thank you all for the quick, insightful, and welcome comments!
@Rusty_Pancelo, I didn't think about just getting them rotated to the opposite side, thanks for the insight! @Wedgy, good point, I guess just remounting should be just fine.
@frscke1 You're absolutely right. I went for the jeep wheels on a whim, and for a cheap price. I thought it would look cool, which it does, but now I realize it's not worth the compromise in safety. I'm glad you have had such good experience with the bfg's, I feel better about my purchase!
@wrcsixeight Thanks for the input. I didn't think about the extra advantages of going up to 16"s. I'm so close to rubbing with the 17"s but wanted meaty tires so just went with 15"s. (they're already ordered). However, I plan to primarily roam logging roads so I'm fine with the loss in mpg.
Also just general FYI, American Racing is completely out of stock of at least a couple of 15" wheel models (nationwide, probably covid related). I called several stores nationwide for outlaw ii's, at least 4 mo back order. I was lucky and was able to order the last 4 baja wheels in stock ( pairs of different widths, 7" and 8", which has led me to this original post)
Happy vannin! I'm not sure if I formated my response correctly. I agree, if youre buying new rims, try and find an offset thats going to give you the stance you are looking for, thats the best way to go. However, I personally dont feel that spacers are all that dangerous. I have ran spacers on plenty of trucks and vans with no issues when dealing with a limited selection of rims, tires or funds. Just like anything else, make it a scheduled maintenance point, torque your spacers, torque your rims. Im sure there are times where spacers have been used inappropriately or theyre cheap, neglected and they fail, but i dont know a single person personally to ever have an issue. No broken studs, nothing, and not all of my vehicles are street queens. I guess its just about what youre personally comfortable with, how youre using/maintaining your vehicle and how much piece of mind you actually need. If you have the cash to buy the rims to get the stance you want, go that route, otherwise, get some billet and stay under 2" | | | Re: rotating tires on staggered wheel set-up | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 18,286 Likes: 558 | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 18,286 Likes: 558 | You ordered 15" rims ? Have you had a set of 15 on your van before ? I believe 15" rims interfere with the brake calipers N rotors on Chevy vans. Bigger rotors for a heavier vehicle ....16" rims are stock for a reason.
The stock used to be 16.5 but the tire manufactures did away with 16.5 tires.

No interference problems. Stock tire was a 225/75R15 or 235/75R15. I put a set of 8" truck rallyes on with 255/70R15 on all 4 corners. No problems.
