Rained hard Sunday and I go out and open the driver's door on my 94 G20 and water comes out of the footwell like there was a pond in it. Wondering how the heck water got in there I started looking at it and it was flowing right over the drip rail and instead of dropping off, running back into the door frame to work it's way down into the footwell. From a spot right directly up from the vent post.
Is there supposed to be a little gap in the rail there to encourage it to drip? I want to say I remember from the 88 and 91 that it liked to drip at that spot and you'd get wet sometimes if you had the window open on the one that didn't have visors. I think it's worse on this one because it's not a high-top.
Looking at this there's a wad of some kind of sealer or filler there that slopes up from the drip channel and a vertical crack like there's an edge under it. Thinking I should dig some of that out and it might help with the problem.
But we had a thunderstorm tonight and I'm fairly certain if I go out now and open the door a bunch of water will fall out.
I need to mess around up there anyways, while this van is super clean for New York it does have a couple holes over the windshield I need to patch up. I got a vent to put on it, too.

The window scraper felts don't keep water out, they only minimize it, and the factory put weep holes in the bottoms of the doors to help water drain out.
These things get clogged with funk, and rarely get cleaned, which is why most doors you find are rotten in the bottoms. Pop that door panel off and see what's going on in there. Make sure the holes are clean. Sounds like the water may be coming through there though and then not draining out past your outer door rubbers. | | | Re: And a water issue | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 21,211 Likes: 25 Supreme Master | Supreme Master Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 21,211 Likes: 25 | IMHO Chevy vans have terrible drip rails (rain gutters) that don't allow the water to properly drain. Two little notches above the windshield and two notches above the front doors. Me thinks this is why so many rot out above the windshield because water lays in there.
When I had the gutters above the windshield and front doors redone on my '93, they dug out the old sealer and applied a thinner bead which helps but still not great. Luckily it's all new paint up there too.
One thing I do periodically is scrub the gutters to keep them free of dirt build-up.
