This is my 2005 GMC Safari.

It's been 3 years now that I have had this van. So far i have done the front end, new heads, new seals and gaskets in the intake plenum, and basic maintenance.
[Linked Image]
Got the door pins installed the other day. I need to get to the store and get a hole saw and change out the door handles. I have have been focusing on the biggest problems first. The next biggest headache I have with the van is the sliding door. I swear I'm the only person that can open and close it. I want to have the door gullwinged in the next 2 weeks.I have the struts, just waiting to talk to the welder about the hinges. I only want to do this once. I may (90% sure I will) add a power lift for the door. Once the door is gullwinged I can add the 1/4 spacers to the rear. The spacers are needed in the front to clearance the calipers. But the rear tires with spacers hit the sliding door.
[Linked Image]
Then I'm going to start on the front of the van. The front bumper is looking ruff and rubs the tires when turning tight. Trim the ends and a quick DIY paint touch up. Modify the grill
[Linked Image]
I'd paint it black.

1968 GMC grill emblem. I'm also going to switch the headlights. Think it gives it an older look.

I will post more as I get it done. Sunday I will be getting a few odds and ins done. Thanks again guys!

Really nice project van man, I dig it a lot. Like the color and everything you're doing so far. Thanks for sharing and keep us posted on how it comes along.

Aye! Tis! The LEDs on the front in the Headlights are cool. I like the look on the modern Challengers. Slider to Gullwing! Sweet

Yesterday I got the throttle positioning sensor, IAC, air and fuel filter, and Wolo horn

All AC Delco parts. The horn is fun, 34 songs and it connects to my phone. I love rolling up with The A-team theme song playing!
Passing someone while playing Dixie, like the Duke boys. And my favorite. La Cucaracha, like Cheech and Chong!

I'm getting these T hinges for the gullwing. Heavy duty and I think they give a lot more surface to weld them on the body.
[Linked Image]
I'm also going to cut a section out of the seat front seat base, at least a inch. I feel like I'm sitting on the van not in it. I will have it welded around the same time I have the hinges welded. I forgot to mention the passenger window isn't going down. Not 100% sure what's up there. I have new switches both sides, just ran out of time yesterday. I should have more time tomorrow while the kids are in school.

That's one thing I love most about my vans. Sitting up higher so I can see through traffic. Reminds me of my days driving 5 tons in the Army a lot.

Digging all the cool goodies. Anxiously following along.

I didnt get the windows figured out, ran out of time again. I did get both front exterior door handles changed out and the door springs put back in. I replaced the rear hatch struts about a month ago. Just need that slider gullwinged and all doors are fixed. My brother stopped by with his scan tool. No more "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light. Besides changing the fluid in the rear end, the drivetrain is done. I'm also changing out the dryer on the A/C. I might order that tonight. I have a lot of alittle boring jobs on the van. The interior a mess.
[Linked Image]
The trim around the gauges and radio is dry and brittle. I have all the pieces going to try and fix it. $100 is just too much to spend for another one. It's hard to see but the dash pad is pulling away from the dash. The armrest on the driver door is terrible.
[Linked Image]
I didnt know, until today that there are 2 different door panels for this van. My van has this type.
[Linked Image]
The armrest is not removable. Which sucks for me.
[Linked Image]
This door has removable armrests, no cloth at the top, and no carpet at the bottom. I'm not sure what the interior of the donor van looks like yet, but my plan is to recover all interior panels and headliner then transplant them into my van. Needing a trip to the "you pull it". Looking for a hitch. If I get lucky and find one. I will be towing the donor van home (bad trans in donor) next week. My van is my daily, so really wanting the donor. After interior, future plans would be to get the subframe from donor rolled in to the garage. I will slowly build it. Not sure on the details yet. I'm thinking 350ci, suspension upgrades, brakes. Not sure on trans, but definitely an auto and 2 wheel drive. I will do the same with donor rear end. Lots of research between now and then. I want cheap and reliable. Not a racer, but would like to pull a nice camper. Any info or tips would be greatly appreciated. I will try to get the passenger window fixed tomorrow. Changed both switches today, still only works up. Wish me luck.

That second door panel with the removable arm rest is from the cargo version. Can't wait to see the gullwing in action.
