Leakbox has the same side pipes on his Chevy. I wonder how he likes the sound. I would imagine they sound louder with headers or without cats etc.

That's good news for me at least, I want side pipes, but I don't want it to be too loud.

they are basically a glasspack style muffler, so the tone will change with time. however, if your still not happy, replace the mufflers with straight pipes and run it!

I dont even run a pipe behind my heat shields. My exhaust still runs through 40 series Flowmasters and then into the rear of the sidepipe where the pipe would attach to the turnout. much safer with all my kids I have running around.

Get rid of the stock cat. putting a high flow cat will wake it up. I'm putting 2 high flow cats with the 80" patriots

The reason they are “quiet” is because your cat is acting like a muffler, and then the exhaust is going into the pipes hitting “muffler #2” and getting even quieter. If you take the “glass pack” out of the side pipes and straight pipe them, that will give you a little more noise/rumble, or you can wait and the glass will burn out and yo will gain some noise/rumble…in a few years.

I want side pipes, they would look perfect on my shorty but the exhaust on it is brand new, dad will go nuts if I have it cut off, he loves the sound of the dualed inline, said I'd be stupid to have it replaced, I can't help the previous owner replaced it, shortys look best with side pipes.

Not that I know of. Patriot Exhaust is the only current manufacturer of side pipes. It's always an option for the right fabricator to build some though.
