What did you use to polish yours? | | | Re: Me and my first van. | Joined: Mar 2021 Posts: 208 Likes: 35 enthusiast | OP enthusiast Joined: Mar 2021 Posts: 208 Likes: 35 | I started with 600 grit sandpaper, then 800, 1000, and 1500. Then a machine polish useing Mother's mag and aluminum polish. The final polish done by hand. I have polished these wheels a few years ago when I first got them, but over time they lose the shine. So once I finished the polish this time I did 10 coats of ceramic coating. Should hold a shine longer. | | | Re: Me and my first van. | Joined: Jul 2019 Posts: 11,241 Likes: 411 Post Junkie | Post Junkie Joined: Jul 2019 Posts: 11,241 Likes: 411 | Those rims came out so nice. Your van looks great! | | | Re: Me and my first van. | Joined: Mar 2021 Posts: 208 Likes: 35 enthusiast | OP enthusiast Joined: Mar 2021 Posts: 208 Likes: 35 | Parts came in yesterday, (idle air control, tps, air and fuel filters, vac lines). Hope to knock that out quick. I also have new door pins and handles. Next I want to start gathering parts and info on making the slider into a gulwing. Im starting with the things that are giving me the most problems first. Both front door handles are bad and the slider is horrible. So far, I have done the front suspension, replaced all intake gaskets and seals, new heads(#6 was dead when i got the van), and a tune-up. Basic stuff, nothing fun yet. Im working on buying a 2004 Safari as a parts/mock-up van. Basically plan on stripping it and scraping the rest. I have 5 kids, the van will be a family road trip/weekend camper van. So, the seats will be staying. (Its an 8 pass.) Thanks for the comments! I been looking around for a while and was thinking posting pics of the van will keep progress going. So many great ideas and tons of bad ass vans. Thanks for the warm welcome. | | | Re: Me and my first van. | Joined: Mar 2021 Posts: 208 Likes: 35 enthusiast | OP enthusiast Joined: Mar 2021 Posts: 208 Likes: 35 | Got some work done on the van yesterday. Both open and close so much better. Got side tracked by an awesome horn. Wolo juke box musical horn, cant wait to show it off. Sunday I'm going to tie up a few more odds and ins. Should have the sliding door gullwinged in the next few weeks. Then on to that mess of an interior. | | | Re: Me and my first van. | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 336 enthusiast | enthusiast Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 336 | have had a few astros and a safari. wonderful vans. took my military family on many trips. also towed my 1968 jeepster commando from one base to another. could hardly tell i was towing. the thought has crossed my mind to sell my 79 dodge b200 and go back to an astro/safari. very nice looking van. | | | Re: Me and my first van. | Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 2,290 Likes: 137 veteran | veteran Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 2,290 Likes: 137 | Looking really good man.
