I am looking to add swivel bases to the driver and passenger seats in my 1995 GMC conversion van. I was looking at the cheaper ones from Northern tool, but in my search I also found some basic swivels that do not have a locking feature that I could add some brackets to, to mount a seat that would also be much more cost effective. Just looking for other people’s opinions On non locking swivels?

No way I would drive with non locking swivels. Go around a sharp turn and spin a 360 degree with my seat and possibly the van too. YIKES!

Non-locking swivels are for bar stools and merry-go-rounds.
lol

I would definitely get ones that lock, otherwise you'd have to hold yourself still...
With what?
The steering wheel?
Doesn't it spin too?
lol

I do not think non locking swivel seats are legal.... but that has not stopped some from doing what they want.

I definitely do NOT recommend non locking swivels. Get ones with a steel locking mechanism.

I would definately do locking ones or make a pin mechanism to stop that while driving.

Keep us posted. My van has a sort of two sided riser deal with electronics under the driver seat. I was looking at some different locking swivel brackets but I would have to relocate things unless could find a slim swivel and add it to the existing setup, and not really into RAISING the seat at all. I was thinking about only doing the passenger side for this reason. Are your front seat brackets the same in your van? I actually pitched my middle seats years ago and they were identical to the front captains chairs flexsteel I think. And if I remember I think they had plain flat pivoting brackets. I'm a moron. I should have just moved one to the front passenger position..
