I've always loved vans, especially since seeing the Warlock. I've always wanted a rad van, but I was always worried I couldn't make one my own. I've saved enough to get a van to customize. The main problem is it's hard to find one that isn't a total basket case, or hellish expensive for what someone else thinks is cool.
I figured if I could get something rust free with a healthy motor I'd be in good shape. I'm looking for a '75-'77 B300. I'm willing to travel/haul one. The more I look more I realize how little I know. So I figured I could learn from the community so I don't I don't get burned like a chuck, or the angry ire of my wife.
Any nuggets of wisdom would be appreciated. I know better at least not to ruin a survivor.
I'm in Iowa City and looking forward to living the sweet vanning life.

Welcome from NYC.....
As far as looking for and buying a project van.... keep an open mind. It appears you want a 75-77 Dodge. If another make, year, and model appears and is in better or great shape, possibly rethink.... I know you might have your mind and heart set on a specific model and year. But always keep in the back of your mind your experience in repairing and modifying and, of course, your funds....which may go by the wayside in your search for your perfect choice. Just a suggestion....do whatever you think works for you.... of course.... Have fun and good luck!

Welcome from San Diego.

I feel your pain. I started vanning back in 1971 and had my 3rd Chevy back in 1982 when a drunk driver; wrong way driver on the freeway in a 1970's Camaro took it out.
Life took it's turns and I didn't come back into the Van Life until October of last year when the Heavens shinned down upon me with my 1974 G10 Shorty.

The guys can tell you I had many disappointments and heartbreak; flying to the Bay Area; New Mexico; Arizona; Nevada Denver and road trips all over CA.
I was beginning to believe it would never happen and " My Circle of Faith Vanners " ( they know who they are ) would talk me off my ledge.

The advice ; their knowledge and experience is phenominal. You will get leads and know how.

When you least expect it; it will happen.

Don't take short cuts. As my Dear Old Dad would say: " Never go cheap on Parts; Mechanics; Doctors and Lawyers "

Good Luck on Your Quest. chevy

Welcome from Florida. The only advice I have is , be patient and one will come along. There are a lot of Facebook van groups as well. I have found a lot of parts there ( I don't do 'friends', just there to find parts ).

Welcome!
Good luck on your search.

It took me forever to get my silly ol' cargo van (That I always intended to make a custom out of but haven't).
My search started with a Dodge like you want, but then evolved over time due to what was in my area and my money situation at the time.
I ended up with a newer, Chevy extended van, and I really love it.

A lot has changed in the van market since I bought mine in 2014.
I don't envy anyone that's trying to buy a van right now.
