Do you have a camper van with the big high top or are you referring to the style where the front looks like a van but everything behind the front doors is like a big motor home ?
I think the vintage motor home style ran 16.5 inch tires ? I have heard of some guys who have traded the 16.5 wheels for 16s because it's easier to find tires. If you do have the large mh style I would recommend taking to a RV shop near you. I can't stress how important the proper tire is.

I think all the 3/4 tons had 5 lug 15 inch wheels. Probably 235/75/15 extra load rated tires. I assume the door sticker is no longer there ? That would tell you for sure.

I believe the phantoms are sl (standard load ) tires ?
You need a tire that can handle the weight of the van. The LT stands for Light Truck, vs. SL or P, which stands for Passenger vehicle. The LT tire would have a different construction, the cords are of a higher gauge and often there is an extra steel belt and additional ply in the LT tire compared to the standard load equivalent. LT tires are made to carry higher loads, but have a lower speed rating.
XL rated tires have the higher load rating similar to the LT tires, yet retain a higher speed rating, since they are passenger vehicle tires. Most LT tires have a Speed rating (R ) = 106 mph. I don't think you will be doing 100mph plus in your van. So yes you need LT tires. You don't want to over load your tires.

Any one else want to chime in with some tire advice ? I'm definitely no expert , just trying to help.

I have a 77 b200 high top and ive ran LT 235/75 15 load range C and currently load range D

I have never had a flat or any issues in either load range and that thing has been PACKED solid. Maybe this is the last of my good luck? Its also insured and driven almost daily for 6 or more months of the year, every year. No less than a handful of times a season this van has done 50+ kms (30+ miles?) on bush roads and logging roads, some pretty rough county, with no issues even on 7 yr old load range C tires. Glad i have the D's now for more piece of mind but either will do ya bud.

I recommend LT tires for your camper

Do you HAVE to have them? I dont know.

Do I? Yep.
