Thanks guys, they’re gorgeous. I’m excited to clean up the brackets tomorrow.

I wish I could say the same for the van. The painter has found a few spots of rust, but nothing that can’t be fixed.

Today I stripped out the braces and started planing the walls. You guys were right, 1/4” plywood for the walls. I pulled the tear drops and cleaned them up in my tub.

I also test fit the overhead console. It’s going to need a bit of massaging to fit but it’ll happen.

I’m going to start upholstering the door panels this weekend also.

Lots of projects while the painting is happening.

I installed my new walls today. I came up short about a foot behind the driver side but nothing that can’t be fixed. I went with 11/32 because it was way cheaper than 1/4 and conforms to the curvature really well. The ceiling needs some final adjustments before the final install. Next week I’ll address that and then run all of my wiring for speakers and lighting. After that, I’m done until the paint is finished.

So, my painter caught Covid. The paint and body has been pushed back a bit more. He's doing it in his off time to help keep my costs low, which helps because there is a lot of fixable rust, but the paint isn't stripped. But it isn't like there is a place to cruise to anyway. Oh well.

So I ended up securing the floors and doing the bed frame. I found a lot of great ideas in my books that I have put to good use.

I ran the 1"x3" boards on the floor so I have something to drill into. I watched out for the tank and the rest was cake.

I gotta cut those tear drops out soon to test fit them and their clearance.

I came up with a very simple bed frame out of 2"x4" boards. I just need to cut some legs for support and I can top with some plywood, wrap in carpet pad, and carpet. I think'll have the interior finished before the exterior. LOL.

The legs will give them full support and I'll drop two in the middle. Once I finish the bed I'll move on to the rear corners, run the wiring, and then wrap up the overhead console.

You're so lucky Charlie to be able to make the time to work om your van. "Extra" lucky to have access to your dad's shop. Tough break on the painter. Stay safe Sir Charlie and as always nice work.

It’s been awhile since I updated this thread, I’ve been putting them in the What Did You Do Today thread.

I fully framed and started paneling the platform bed. Plenty of storage underneath and I installed some wood blocked to act as a jig and keep it in place until final install.

The plan is to run carpet pad on the wood and up on top of the bed. Place to sit and place to sleep for the rare overnight trip to a show or a swap.

I found a pretty sweet textured carpet the same color as the van that I’ll run inside. It isn’t shag but it is pretty thick. I figure 20’x12’ will be plenty enough for the floor and bed with some for left overs. I still have some bracing to install on the top, my left over wood came up short.

I’m running some 3.25” mdf baseboards along the edges for trim. Super cost effective and they install very easy.

The painter started the door jambs and roof yesterday so I can start prepping for carpet and interior. Next week I’ll pull the ceiling panel, remove the wing, and run some wiring.

I set a deadline of 3 months to be able to take it out on the road. I want two months of shake down driving. So far, the Born Free Chopper Show is on for the end of June. Plenty of shake down driving will get me ready to head south for a weekend.
