But I do want the wheels to have an 80's vibe. I have a couple of choices. Due to the front having been converted to discs, I have to go with 15" or larger. I have a set of Boyd Coddington 15" 5-spokes from the late 80's, but they are 8" front and 10" rear (not 100% they will clear everything yet). I can do the basic 60's 15" steel wheels with stock Ford hubcaps. Or I can use the same steel wheels with brushed stainless moon disc wheel covers. | | | Re: What is best for that 80's look? | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 32,696 Likes: 172 Old Timer | Old Timer Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 32,696 Likes: 172 |

And even with the 8" on the front, there could be an issue there. I haven't even put them on to check if the backspacing is right. Should be ok. | | | Re: What is best for that 80's look? | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 3,455 Likes: 23 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 3,455 Likes: 23 | I would worry about the fronts more as you can lift back. I had 7' on the front of my 71 with no rubbing. My buddy has 8' 235/15's on his 69 but not reverse and sometimes rubs.

If I do the stock style 15" steels, I have a basically new set of 205/70R15 whiteline tires coming off of my 48 Plymouth, as a set of NOS wide whitewall Lester bias-ply tires is going back on it. I feel like the basic steel wheels with the moon discs would be awesome just because none of the wheel is even visible, but these mags are pretty nice and look the part as well. I just can't seem to find any images of a 69 Econoline with either style to help me determine which route to go before I actually spend any cash in either direction.
Any ideas on which style represents the 80's better? I grew up in the 80's, and I don't really remember seeing a lot of moon discs, but I know a bunch of vans had basic 5-spoke mags similar to these Boyds, and it would definitely stand out with them now. In the 80's I was in Florida, and what I saw the most might have been more a product of the region rather than the culture in general. | | | Re: What is best for that 80's look? | Joined: Jan 2021 Posts: 27 Likes: 3 newbie | OP newbie Joined: Jan 2021 Posts: 27 Likes: 3 | So here are the wheels and tires on the van. 205/70r15 fronts, 275/60r15 rears

You can't go wrong with 5-spoke wheels and white letters. | | | Re: What is best for that 80's look? | Joined: Jan 2021 Posts: 27 Likes: 3 newbie | OP newbie Joined: Jan 2021 Posts: 27 Likes: 3 | The fronts and rears aren't the same brand. When the fronts get replaced I might have the rears flipped with the lettering out. Or maybe find a good deal on a set of WL BFGs or something. | | |
