Hi, I'm trying to figure out what this bracket is that is mounted to the front of my (original?) power steering pump. It is the flat piece of steel in the photos with the 90 degree bend towards the pulley. It is bolted to the two holes behind the pulley. My only guess is that it is there to stick a prybar in so you can tighten the belt. Right now it is touching the belt so I'd like to remove it. Can I remove the bracket or does it have a purpose? Thanks!
Never saw one of those ... but yeah prob to tighten the pump belt .... strange

I think I figured out that the pump must have been connected directly to the crank pulley in the past so that the belt would have sat horizontally. That way it wouldn't have hit the bracket, it would have gone straight under it. It hit the bracket for me because I have it going to the water pump too. I ended up cutting off the top of the bracket and welding a bolt to it so it would be out of the way and I could still use it as a tensioner. I also realized I had to use the 2-groove pulley so everything would line up correctly. Here are some photos of the fix, I can't figure out how to embed them without making them links. Thanks!
