I am restoring an old Martin RV sunroof. It has a dual arm operator with a crank in the center. This style appears to be a universal design but has been discontinued in the last few years. The mounting holes at 5-7/8" center to center. I have the bracket needed for mounting. I have been unable to source any from even older RV shops.
I have purchased one but I will have to fabricate a different bracket and I am not too wild about it.

The issue I am having is it appears the internal gear shaft has sheared off where it meets the arms and in turn the arms don't evenly raise up and there is about 1/2" difference when they are fulled lowered. Because of this, the sunroof won't seal. I would hate to keep it for parts and I would like to eventually use it in the future on a different van.

If anyone has a spare operator or a sunroof for parts, I would appreciate it.

Thank you,

Charlie

Don't give up hope Charlie ; sooner or later you'll come across one. Do you think someone at Martin could help ?

I’m pretty sure they’ve been defunct for decades.

Unfortunately those won’t work for the geometry of the frame, trust me I’ve run all sorts of ideas in my head.

I’m keeping an eye out for those Martin side bubble windows. They use the same crank I need. I have a NOS one but I’m not going to cannibalize it for a crank. Used ones pop up from time to time.

I think the old Elixir style vents have the same gear in their cranks. I am going to try and pull one I have access to and see. Hopefully it'll be good.

*EDIT*

So I pulled the gear from the Elixir vent I had and it is the same, the arm isn’t though. Upon further inspection of the sunroof arms, the troubled one is bent. I’m going to contact a fabrication shop this week and see if they can straighten it and get the curvature right. Then it’ll be good to go.

I have a second one on the way to me along with an operator. I better lay my hands on as many older Elixir vent arms and gears as I can because they’re all long gone.

The new operator arrived today. It’s a bit different but I think it’ll work. I need to cut a flat bracket for it and drill two new holes for mounting. It should work.
