Yeah the vinyl does not seem to want to adhere to the fillet radius I splined around the perimeter. When I did the fab, I epoxied a piece of plywood to cover the ash tray and provide a flatter surface. Then I used body filler and a popsicle stick to get a fillet between it and the cover lip. For whatever reason, that area does not seem to be willing to adhere. The shop said that if I opt to wrap the aluminum piece, they would cut out the majority of the center and then pull up and re-glue the edge before bonding the insert down. I am thinking that will be what I will ultimately do.
After my "unhappiness" with the plastic chrome option for the material separator, I cut the aluminum sheet with a bandsaw and then had to get to work getting it smooth. I spent a ton of hours hand filing the sides to get it to flow, and then came up with a makeshift router table by clamping my grinding bit in a workmate, then stacking some wood next to the arbor to get it to the right height. I finished smoothing the edges on one, the ground some radii on the edges so it is more contoured. After more hours of hand working progressively finer sand paper, I then took my trusty aluminum polish and worked it with my foam polisher. I think they will work out well. Now it's time to work on the other side....
I wired up the switch for the engine cover drink holder rings and spliced in some disconnects so I can remove the doghouse without any issues. I put the switch right next to the cover between it and my USB port. It is definitely nerve-wracking to drill holes in that dash, but it came out nice.
It was a gorgeous day and perfect for some "advancement".....so I ground, and filed, and sanded, and sanded, and sanded....and polished and buffed and polished and buffed....but I think I have both of the aluminum strips ready for clear coating, placement, and installation on the doghouse. I also remedied the over-extension of the cubby door by getting a 1/16" cable and crimp ferrules at HD. I cut a spot in the inside padding, sliced off a piece of wood dowel, and then drilled a hole for the screw. I epoxied the dowel to the door, put shrink tube on the cable, sprayed the rest black, and then attached the other side to the under face of my drink holder. In between all of that, in order to give my forearms a rest, I wrestled my newly-arrived sub into my planned spot....with only a small amount of frame clearing. Those three tasks took up the day but it was a good feeling to have progress at the end.

Got the first cushion upholstery back....looks good but I am apprehensive about the "main" one. Shop says they don't have sufficient material to cover it. I said...WHY DID YOU NOT DO THE BIGGEST FIRST??
Anyway he wants more material, and out of the 15 million fabrics in the world, of course THIS one is out of stock and backordered on every site I try
