Hood release broken... | Joined: Jun 2018 Posts: 3 stranger | OP stranger Joined: Jun 2018 Posts: 3 | So my Halloween project is trying to open my hood after the hood release breaks. It's 1990 G30 van, and the release lever has zero resistance and just slided back and forth without releasing the hood. I've disconnected the pull level from under the dashboard and it "feels" like the cable is sliding back and forth within the cable housing, so I'm assuming it's disconnected further forward, maybe directly under the hood. Any suggestions on opening the hood? Thanks, Ken | | | Re: Hood release broken... | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 18,308 Likes: 569 | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 18,308 Likes: 569 | My 93 broke also but I dont know how the mech go it open.

I have to do this on my Dodge some times. If that doesn't work you will need to take a long screw driver. Slip in between the grille and trick the latch open. Theres a metal cylinder on the end of the wire that sits in a clip, I bet yours has come out.

Great idea. The doghouse approach is ingenious! Of course it didn't occur to me
If it's helpful to anyone, I ended up prying the hood up slightly with 2 wedges of wood, and then used a wrench to unbolt the hood latch. The attached pic has a small yellow screwdriver pointing to one of the 2 bolts removed.
The cause was the cable disconnected from the latch for no apparent reason. The cable was undamage and reconnected, I have however installed a piece of string accessible through the grille to release the hood if the cable disconnects again.
Thanks again, Ken
