So the front speakers are 4x6 I believe but I want to size them up to a 6x9, has anyone done this or is it possible? I'm willing to do some modification to the dash if need be, but I blew one speaker and would rather install 6x9s and get more bass.

One of these days when I get the chance, I plan on pulling my dash off and changing out the "dash speakers"

Just a little heads up. You probably won't have room for a 6x9 speaker in the dash. If you remove the 4x6 stock speaker you may (maybe) be able to make a bracket and to be able to mount a 5-1/4" or maybe a 6" speaker.

I think what I'm going to do is replace the stock speakers with the same size and then just install a couple 6x9s in the pillars

Update, I was able to install 5x7s in the original mounting spot, I mounted them from the bottom and they work great, next I'll be installing a speaker in the center of the dash somewhere if I can find a spot, if not ill be installing speakers in the pillars directly behind the front seats

Do you have any pictures of your 5x7 install? Curious to know what that looks like. Whose 5x7 did you end up using?

Just now seeing this post. I took my dash completely off a few years ago to change the heater core. While I had the dash off, I decided to replace my 4x6 OEM speakers. I went to Crutchfield and saw the specs of the 4x6 and thought they were more than adequate for the van dash and the sound I wanted. I chose the Polk Audio DB 462 for $69 / pair. They installed perfectly and I've been very happy with the EQ of the speakers. I matched them with 5 1/4 speakers in the front doors and 6x9 in the rear of the van. Its been a great setup for me.

I'm basically did the same thing as JDouglas, except I don't have speakers in the doors. I put some rockford fosgate 6x9 in the back, and some kicker 4x6 in the front. I faded some to the rear some because those 4x6 are really treble heavy. I wasn't going for anything pro, but with the rear doors sound deadened and a $90 head unit in there, it does its job.

You could probably fit larger speakers up front as long as they are shallow. You might need to completely remove the dash to cut it properly. Also, I'd probably say more bass up in the dash is just going to rattle things around. Just wire up a 10 inch sub somewhere if you want bass.
