This 89 van is becoming a lot more work than I thought it would. The 318 might be salvageable, but at considerable expense to fix all it's issues. At least $400 in parts to do it right. So I went ahead with the drive train swap from Blue. Got the 360 swapped in, also put in a new torque converter, water pump and timing chain ( double roller) on the 360. Most all other parts on the 360 were new within the last 2 years. Starter, AC compressor, alternator, etc. Discovered it's a roller motor! After I had been told it wasn't the Magnum roller motor until 93. ( Blue is a 92) So I guess that was a bonus. Now to put on the alternator, and other accessories. THEN...I get to swap the entire wiring harness under the hood, the computer, and probably in the dash. I'll have to swap the gauge cluster since the speedometer is cable driven in 89, and electronic in the 92. Will also have to swap the steering column to match the wiring harness swap, but that's cool since the turn signal switch is broken on the 89, and since it has tilt, costs $200!. Cheaper and easier to swap columns. Been thinking about the name for the van...since that dear came out of the Blue, the 89 is getting so much out of Blue, and I am now going to finish it out like I was going to do on my shorty Blue...Think I'll name her "Out Of The Blue". More soon.

Been a rough few months....Only getting to work 1 day a week on Out Of the Blue.... working 6 days sucks. Then for the last 2 months I have been dealing with a pinched nerve in my neck with constant level 7 or 8 pain down right shoulder and arm. But I'm one of those who pushes through the pain. Going to Chiropractor 3 times a week for the last 4 weeks has made a huge difference. The pain almost gone. Also over the summer the wife had to have an emergency heart valve replacement, almost lost her. Fortunately thanks to God, and top notch doctors, she's doing good. The setbacks, snags, all cause the regret factor to rise. I'm about the half way point. It's been the encouragement from others, my son and my wife, that keeps me going.

The more parts I try to swap from Blue (92) to Out Of The Blue, (an 89), the more issues come up. But I'm trudging through. Already had to modify the under dash mounting on the steering column to fit the 89, and the 92 column is 2 1/2" longer. But that was a bonus for me. I like the seat position back, and now the steering wheel is a more comfortable position for me. My son Adam was the "fabricator" on that. All fits. The wiring harness from Blue is in the dash of the 89 now, What a chore that was. I still need to get it all connected. I have to swap the under hood harness, but that is way easier than the dash swap. The hardest part on that is loosening the 4 bolts on the power booster so i can pull it forward about an inch to route the harness behind it ,like was done at the factory, then tighten the bolts back.

By the way, I need to locate another gauge cluster housing. The gauges work, but the mounting tabs on the housing, are all broken. Seems to be an all too common issue. Old dried out plastic parts. Know several others with the same problem. And all the ones I find at the salvage yards are broken. So if anyone knows of one in decent shape or has mounting suggestions, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Hope you and your wife get to feeling better soon. I will keep an eye out for a good gauge cluster housing.
