Thank you, ‘65. It’s one of my dad’s projects.

Today was a milestone for my project. Last week I started sanding a lot of the surface rust from the interior walls and ceiling of the van. I still had half of the interior to remove so I did it today. I’m very relieved because it looks like the rear has the worst surface rust, probably from the ceiling vent leaking and soaking the interior for god knows how long. The front half is going to be a quick wipe down to remove fiberglass left overs and I can start glueing in the insulation sheets. I was very relieved to see that today.

I sanded a lot more of the rear ceiling panel surface rust today and then sealed it with some Rust Oleum paint+primer rust stop paint. It isn’t cancer so I’m not worried about it. Once that was done, I finally installed my wing. I used some metal hardware instead of the plastic. I’m going to silicone it next week and once it goes to paint and body, I’ll have them seal the base of the wing for double security. It was very easy and I’m glad I spent the last few months researching the forums.

There will be some more interior sanding next week as there is some manageable rust on the ribs, nothing structural. Then I can sand the dash and passenger door to prime and paint. After that it’ll be insulation. That light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter.

I’m having a hard time finding a reliable paint and body guy by me. The previous one I used just doesn’t want to work and his shop is keeping irregular hours. I found an amazing single stage color through Summit racing’s store brand. It is a metallic Merlot color. While reading on the HAMB, a few people recommended shooting several coats of clear of the Summit single stage and it supposedly pops up like crazy. I’ve just really liked this Merlot color.

I brought some window wings home to clean up, restore, get new glass cut for one, install new rubbers, and tint over the next few weeks. Steele Rubber has a great how to video on their site.

I started sanding and prepping the dash and doors today for some paint. I wasn't able to get all the grease the first time around. Time to sand more and re-paint.

Most of the dash will have to wait until the windshield is pulled because it sits at an angle.

Other than some small bits of wiring, she is ready to go in for paint and body. I'll remove windows, trims, bumpers, handles, and such before it goes in. I can clean them all up while it gets painted.

Thanks, Mickey!

I made a bunch of purchases for some suspension work also. I’m probably a few weeks out from paint, but I can still do the shocks and suspensions work while I wait. Next summer is shaping up to be fun.

More small steps today but I feel good.

I got her on the rack today to install some Hijackers and new front shocks.

[Linked Image]

I removed some vintage Red Ryder shocks from the van, but they were already starting to corrode around the cover.

They went in very easy and look great. I need to tweak some a bit because I think I pulled one of the tubes a bit tight while adjusting and caused a slow leak, thank goodness for cutting some extra slack.

I found a sweet spot for my swap meet tach from last weekend.

[Linked Image]

I'm going to play around with it a bit more.

As I was driving home, I stopped by an old abandoned business that has a mid Ford sitting outside of it for about the last 10 years. It hasn't been registered since 2014. I left a note to see if they were interested in selling it. I thought it was a short van but it looks like it is a V8, automatic Supervan.

It looks pretty solid and cancer free. It has some dents and dings but I know I can swap my old '69 grille to it along with a few other parts to trade between mine and this one if I'm lucky enough to pick it up cheap. We'll see. I think it would make a fun hauler, maybe throw some mud flares, Keystones, and a visor on it and call it good
