It totally looks like it would work on my van, which is why I'm finding it so odd that Hellwig lists compatibility from 1983-95. Maybe they're full of sh*t. lol

Wow...super helpful. Thanks, Hellwig. | | | Re: 1978 front sway bar? | Joined: Feb 2016 Posts: 1,266 Likes: 43 old hand | old hand Joined: Feb 2016 Posts: 1,266 Likes: 43 | It's weird, 73-87 Chevy C-10s are all the same, I wonder why it wouldn't be the same situation for G10.

They're in Portland and some of them have Chevy's you could compare. Just a thought. | | | Re: 1978 front sway bar? | Joined: Dec 2017 Posts: 494 Likes: 21 addict | OP addict Joined: Dec 2017 Posts: 494 Likes: 21 | It's weird, 73-87 Chevy C-10s are all the same, I wonder why it wouldn't be the same situation for G10. Right? I'm going to talk to the dudes down at Old Car Parts about it this week. I'm sure they'll know what's up. | | | Re: 1978 front sway bar? | Joined: Dec 2017 Posts: 494 Likes: 21 addict | OP addict Joined: Dec 2017 Posts: 494 Likes: 21 | I think the location of the steering box on pre-1983 vans may be the issue. In the pics Nate posted, his seems to be placed further back than mine. Mine sits much more forward and is directly behind the front bumper and is at a 45º (ish) angle. | | | Re: 1978 front sway bar? | Joined: Feb 2016 Posts: 1,266 Likes: 43 old hand | old hand Joined: Feb 2016 Posts: 1,266 Likes: 43 | Is Rolling Death Van Club still active? I think a 74, mid 80s and a 93 or 94. @scojira have you been keeping your eyes out for junk yard vans? Most of them are always g20s and probably have a sway bar. There was an 81 in Vancouver a few weeks ago I think.

Its 1 1/16 " thick. Maybe you could find one at a yard and make it work. The steering box on my 93 sits much further back on the frame and the sway bar is mounted differently as well.
