I am thinking about "wrapping" my van instead of painting it. Its the 69 Ford I just listed in the classified for sale section. Do any of you have examples of "classic" van artwork that I could use to make it look like an original design as would have been used at the height of the custom van craze?

Thanks

I think the van looks good as it is.
If you are wrapping it to sell it, keep in mind that many old-school guys don't want wraps, so you might be spending money and time to limit your van's appeal.

I would not wrap it, it won’t look right.

I agree; to do a truly Great Wrap' is talent' time & $$$$$.

Old school won't like and your selling it; it won't bring a return that's worth it. I actually saw a Newer Honda Odyssey that was off the hook and this guy spent some series dollars.

This van belonged to a guy on the forum and he did this wrap. He later sold the van and I have seen it sell twice since then.

Thanks all of you for your comments/suggestions. This Star Wars van is a great argument for both sides. If the potential buyer loved Star Wars, then this would be attractive, if they didn't this van wouldn't get a second look. I'd be in the exact same boat with whatever design I decided on no matter what "era" or "look" I went with. Maybe I'll just replace the heater core, fix the leak in the A/C, and leave well enough alone.

Shoot, I thought the paint on your van was the best part.

I honestly don't know much about wraps. I have a few friends that do them full time, and they seem to like them. I will say that I've hear a LOT of negative feedback about them lately, read a few things about them retaining moisture under the vinyl on hot rods and such, causing a lot of hidden rust/rot issues similar to how the old vinyl tops did the roof of so many vans and muscle cars.

I personally would go with paint. If you ever change your mind down the road or have an accident, the sand down and repaint or bodywork and repaint seems like it would be a lot easier than removing a huge vinyl sticker essentially. They also fade over time, so if you ad a repair down the road with paint you can use a paint scanner to match the new color. With a vinyl wrap, it's going to be up to the vinyl wrap company to eyeball the color adjust the colors in the image to match the then 5 year faded colors, etc.

So to wrap up, I would do a TON of research before doing it. I personally would never buy a vehicle that has been wrapped because it could be severely rotten under the wrap and you would probably not see much sign of the rot until you removed it.
