as shown here, I removed the shaft and bushings. Though, I don't know which strategy to go for :
reuse the shaft and replace the bushings. The point is, there are metal rings and other thin bushings along the shaft as shown below on the picture. And I don't know where I can get those. Any idea ?
the "rare parts" shaft and everything : this is my last option given the price
I saw lots of people here talking about that issue, but I don't know at the end how they did. Those recurrent lower control arm related issues are a real pain in the neck. Any advice ? Thanks a million
What year is yours? A shaft made for a C20 pickup of the exact same year should do the trick. Here is one I found that fits 67-86 C20 pickup and looks very similar.
You have the 2 inch shaft, If you buy the bushing kits you can rebuild the shaft. No one is making the oddball 2 inch shaft anymore that i know of except rare parts. The two you show are the 1.5 inch ones. I don't know why gm did this. They still make the bushings.

Yes right. But I also need the other parts on the shaft : see those rings below. I could re-use the metal one though they're not in a great shape. But for the rubber ones, they're worn out and I cut them any way to be able to push the big bushings out.

I also thought of machining a modified shaft that would only hold the 2 bushings, but that may cost as much as the rareparts one. Need to check that out.
I just redid my control arms. They are just like yours. I bought new bushings but reused the rest. Just cleaned them up. Mine still looked good. Not torn, nicked or worn out.
As I mentioned in my other thread, I still haven't torn mine apart to come up with a solution.. But I still feel like someone with machine shop connections could replicate these shafts in solid for way less than Rare Parts sells them for, or we could possibly just use the C10 style shafts with hopefully only minor tweaks to the subframe.. Unfortunately it's probably going to be a while longer before I get around to figuring this out
Frosty, I'm glad you didn't have to go through this. The main trouble for me, is replacing those thin rubber bushings/rings (sorry I don't know the exact word).
Tuner4life, oh ok, that explains you didn't give news. I'm personally not ready to modify the crossmember to adapt other shafts, but I like the idea that by doing it, you can then change the shaft with a cheaper standard one if needed in some time (ok, not soon and if this other shaft is still produced).
tuner4life, I hope my LCA shafts are still good. I have not installed them yet but will see what happens when I do. They looked good but a visual inspection is just a part of it.
