Hey Vanners,

Just picked up this 77 G20 in Idaho and brought it home to Bozeman Montana.

It has fresh paint, window/door seals, brakes, tires, and rims.

On the way home the starter went out and luckily we were able to tap on it to get it started. I then kept it running for 7 hours straight, filling up with it running.

It has the original engine and looks to be a rebuilt transmission at one time.

This week I put in a new starter, alternator, battery, and speedo cable. Most of the interior is gone. No window cranks, windows need to be glued in the track, half the gauges don't work, AC was ripped out, steering column shifter spins further than it should.

My long to do list:

- Interior door panels
- Try to find side chrome mirrors that will fit on the raised rounded mounts the previous owner installed.
- Chevy Van 20 badges
- Delete aftermarket fog lights - DONE
- Spare tire rack
- Repair or replace steering column
- Finish wiring gauges
- Replace headers
- Replace valve cover gaskets and intake manifold gaskets
- Add radio and speakers
- Add venting and wait on AC
- Fix air filter and hoses off valve covers
- Add coolant overflow tank
- Install new ignition and matching door key cylinders
- Mount washer fluid reservoir
- Drain and fill diff fluid - DONE
- Install Maxx Air fan
- Build out bed platform with storage
- Build out kitchen
- Install swivel seats
- Find a 4x4 donor vehicle, axles, transfer case and front end
- Install 4x4 and give it a slight lift with larger tires
- Possibly extend sliding door mount to swing around tires
- Install mid or high top if I can find one that looks appropriate
- When the engine goes, swap in a new one.

Hope you enjoy the thread...

Do you all think this is an aftermarket or original grill? I just removed the fog lights and I am debating stripping the black paint on the grill. I may photoshop it to see how the black vs. chrome would look.

Original grills came painted or chrome (with black trim paint) from the factory and I’ve never seen an aftermarket repop. I think chrome grill would really look great. My first Chevy was baby blue and had a black grill and looked 20 times better once I found a good chrome one.

Would the painted factory ones have chrome underneath? It looks a bit like chrome in the one picture that shows the paint chipping by the bolt. I guess I could do a test on the upper mount and see how it looks before stripping the whole thing.

If you look at this original grill I can see where you say it has black paint. It looks like there is more of a defined line between the raised chrome portions and black painted ones than my grill.

It's a royal pain in the butt to paint the black. That being said - I have done this twice and it is ultimately rewarding to me because with the black, the factory grill looks like a chrome tube grill. My personal preference.
