NOTE:: We are still running original parts on our calipers - not yet rebuilt. Master now has new internals.
Anyway, read that 3 and 4 were pretty similar except that if you went up to 4 you cannot go back to three??
Had 5 suggested due to lack of water absorption but have read that the water then just sits somewhere else in the system - think I'd rather it just distribute itself amongst the fluid if that is the case.
Just curious what you all are using? | | | Re: Brake Fluid - What kind do you use? | Joined: Nov 2019 Posts: 23 stranger | stranger Joined: Nov 2019 Posts: 23 | I just use DOT 3 supertech from Wal-Mart. There are also more expensive brands like Pentosin, ATE, Amzoil, Redline.. As you work up DOT 4 and 5 some brands offer a lower viscosity formula. For example, you'll have noticeably better brake or clutch (if hydraulic) performance in cold weather. Detrimental? Probably not. Higher end brake fluid if you're a track day racer. | | | Re: Brake Fluid - What kind do you use? | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 1,080 Likes: 1 old hand | OP old hand Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 1,080 Likes: 1 | Thanks GVANFAN I usually go with Supertech Dot 3 as well. Opted to continue with that after reading about problems with 5 and don't need the increased heat rating of 4. Gonna stick with the original. | | | Re: Brake Fluid - What kind do you use? | Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 2,290 Likes: 137 veteran | veteran Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 2,290 Likes: 137 | | | | Re: Brake Fluid - What kind do you use? | Joined: May 2018 Posts: 2,397 Likes: 64 veteran | veteran Joined: May 2018 Posts: 2,397 Likes: 64 | Dot 3, all my vehicles are 27+years old.
