Good write up! It's nice to dream of a tight firm performance suspension, and they do have their place. But living in reality is another thing entirely. 😄
It seems to me.. Reviving an older ride with stiff springs, firm shocks, (so easy to get carried away on paper) new bushings etc. can tax the heck out of everything on the rest of the vehicle if you're not careful. I found that out the hard way on a unibody car. The hard way.
Honestly, never thought I'd admit to this but... We use SACHS shocks on our locomotives exclusively. They are nice pieces, and it's come to my attention that's what BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Rolls Royce, and the like use as OEM.

GVANFAN... Thanks for your input.

You said... "Reviving an older ride with stiff springs, firm shocks, (so easy to get carried away on paper) new bushings etc. can tax the heck out of everything on the rest of the vehicle if you're not careful."

This is what I deduced from my observations. It just seemed to me that I was seeing failure in parts that couldn't handle the stiffer ride. Granted, if I took the time to assess and match every single aspect it might have been a more successful venture but I still feel then that we might would start to see some stress on the framing or other non-replaced parts.

Perhaps I have too much common sense but I'm happy being common. :o)

In a few weeks time we will be in a location that will permit a full hands-on assessment of the suspension but for now we have been very happy.

She's back to her soft rock and roll ways and feeling good.

We'll let you know how she looks when we get her raised up.
