Want to change to a tilt steering column in my 72 Dodge. Two questions: 1) What years are interchangable? 2) Are there off of any cars or trucks (or would it have to be a van) that would be interchangeable?
Thanks

I don't have parts books which go that far back Lee. I do know that Saginaw made the tilt column which went in the 80s vintage B vans, and I did pull one out of a salvage yard car to use as a parts mine. I don't recall for sure that it was even a Chrysler product. I kind of think it had a bow-tie logo on the horn pad.

The non-tilt and tilt key switches had different wiring harnesses, due to additional circuits. The tilt had more.

The steering coupler is likely the bigger issue. The non-tilt column had the perforated metal shroud which acted as a crumple zone, while the tilt column relied on the sliding steering pot coupler. Several Vanners have done away with their worn out, unobtainable as OEM, steering pot couplers in favor of non-collapsible U-joints. Wrcsixeight made posts about his conversion a number of years ago. Might be worth reaching out to him. He just replaced his with a new one recently after years of service, so he may have the vendor & part number information handy.
