Can anyone recommend one? | | | Re: Converting to stick | Joined: Sep 2019 Posts: 65 journeyman | journeyman Joined: Sep 2019 Posts: 65 | Cant you just get one off the shelf for a g van or Chevy truck via AutoZone or kragens?

There is a bunch of info needed to really make that decision. If you are near stock power and not going to abuse it, just get a standard clutch from the parts store. I've had good lock with Sachs clutches from Oreillys in my projects including the drift car that gets straight abused and clutch kicked for hours at a time. If you are going for a drag application or something very specific, then I'd contact South Bend Clutch and see what they recommend.

The first clutch they brought up to the counter for the '70 Shorty C10 fried 292 I6 to the '69 327 out of my MIL's Impala swap, had a 3 finger pressure plate. My BIL Gordon Grimes of Econorail Racing fame said, "Ah, no," and we received a PP of many fingers all the way around.
Hedman Headers, Granny 4 speed. It was stiffer than SHnot. Turn and Burn 12x15 Jackman 5 spoke steelies plus the 12 inch Winstons too. I pushed that clutch for 15 years. In trafficccccc I came to loathe that stiff sss clutch.
Gordon is laughing somewhere. Probably more than that time years before, too young to even drive, I fired up the newly reassembled 394 Oldsmobile in my '61 Super 88, Code 3 immediate Emergency shutdown.
"Somethings not right Gordon, it sounds funny...?" Gordon comes over, takes a look, Lights it up, shuts it down. LHAO, tries to maintain a straight face, "Ah Really Bill? Loose spark plugs..." | | | Re: Converting to stick | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 513 Likes: 55 addict | OP addict Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 513 Likes: 55 | I bought a clutch, I wanted to buy a good one and future proof it. I went with LUK, I tried to get in touch with centerforce, but had no luck. I have had stick cars before and can change a clutch, but entered into a questionable conversion. It's a 89 Beau' with the factory BB, I got NV4500 from a 98 3500HD work truck. So far so good tranny's mated up, driveshaft cut, finishing crossmember spacers this weekend. Next is the hydro clutch. setup. I will write this one up, it will be more about the hydro setup for chevy. If you search for hydro parts for the van it will show the parts (this is a mistake), I believe now it was never made for our vans. I asked around on FB and one guy from England has a late right hand drive stick model with a cable, early shows the linkage. I stink at posting pictures and will work on it. Tuner if you got the late 4 speed, the early guy did the swap and the offset shifter setup is ultra rare. (keep those parts). | | | Re: Converting to stick | Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 1,015 Likes: 19 old hand | old hand Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 1,015 Likes: 19 | Tuner if you got the late 4 speed, the early guy did the swap and the offset shifter setup is ultra rare. (keep those parts). Mine is all original. 305 with the NP833 trans. The clutch is all linkage. I want to keep the side load shifter position, but beef the transmission up a little bit for towing and future LS swap. Passion performance does make a beefed up overdrive Muncie that is very similar and will work for my application and anticipated power levels. The only other options that will be strong enough would be non-overdrive Muncies or something completely custom. Once I gather all of the drivetrain parts, then I do plan to find a way to convert to a hydraulic clutch. | | | Re: Converting to stick | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 513 Likes: 55 addict | OP addict Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 513 Likes: 55 | I can't believe how long my van sat in the driveway, any how I got it going with hydro clutch, I need to find my old phone for the pics. I got it together just before summer. I am now the proud owner of like 4 master cylinders, 6 if you include the stock ones. The description now reads 89 Beau' BBC, 5speed, Dana 70 out back. | | |
